Official 2007-2008 NBA Trading Deadline Discussion

My initial reaction is that this seems like a lot to give up for a 34 year old point guard.

Jason Kidd is not your normal 34 year old point guard, that dude busts his tail every game.

He is one of the toughest guys in the association.

A nice stat line too.

I'm not saying that he's not great. He obviously can still play at a high level. But they are trading a PG that is 10 years younger. I guess it all depends on your opinion of Devin Harris and if you think Kidd gives them a legit shot of beating the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, or Hornets in a 7 game series. I'm not sure he puts them over the top.

Thinking about it some more though, aside from Harris, the rest of what they gave up doesn't amount to much. Stackhouse is likely to be bought out and return to Dallas. Diop and George are just expiring contracts at this point. Ager is a decent prospect. The two first round picks have value though. So really what Dallas is doing is trading Harris, Ager, 2 1st rounders, and cash for Kidd. Which I suppose isn't a terrible gamble, although it does make them a lot older. If they don't win a title this year or next, this is a move they may regret.

I agree, if the Mavs don't win the championship the deal really, really sucks.

On a completely unrelated note, the Nets were retarded to sign VC long term.

Nets get Devin Harris for 34 year old Kidd and Grizzlies get Javaris Crittenton for much younger Gasol. Makes sense.

Gasol's contract is much more difficult to move

I think the trade helps both teams since both have different needs: Dallas need to win immediately, New Jersey needs to rebuild. Sadly for the latter, they really have no particular player to build around. I can't consider RJeff a marquee player yet. They have some nice, young big men in Sean Williams and Josh Boone, but the rest are still just pieces.

I never saw Devin Harris as a true 1, so I'm interested to see how they play Devin and Marcus. With Kidd, I think he'll help a team that has always been towards the bottom in assists per game. The Mavs have seemed to be this "make your own shot" type of team, which has not necessarily been a bad thing. Still, great teams tend to have a good player running the show at point.

Hope the trade goes through. Wondering what George is thinking, honestly.

He might be thinking that he wants to protect his Admin Bird rights so he can make more money this offseason

It has been quite evident that the Miami Heat have begun a large rebuilding process and they are undergoing a complete philosophical change into a high uptempo style game. The Heat need to find players that would fit that scheme and need some front court help. I have been trying to see various trades that could work that would satisfy these needs.

1. The Miami Heat trade PG Jason Williams, PF Udonis Haslem, F Dorell Wright, G Smush Parker, and C Earl Barron to the Memphis Grizzlies for F/G Mike Miller, C Darko Milicic, PG Kyle Lowry, and G Juan Carlos Navarro.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...p;te=&cash=

This is the best trade for the Miami and benefits Memphis as well. The Miami Heat get the shooter they have been desiring for quite some time since the departures of James Posey and Jason Kapono in Mike Miller, a quality young center in Darko Milicic who just needs some time to develop, and two good, young guards who can fill in holes the Heat have in their rotation. It also makes Miami a much younger team.

For Memphis on the other hand, they have been trying to acquire expiring contracts and Miami has a huge expiring contract in Jason Williams to offer. The Grizzlies get some much needed grit and scoring in the front court with Haslem and a dynamic young forward in Dorell Wright who could get his chance to become a starter with the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies get another expiring contract in Smush Parker and some depth in front court in Barron.

All in all, I think this is a trade that would work well for both sides involved.

2. The Miami Heat trades C Mark Blount to the Charlotte Bobcats for C Nazr Mohammed and PF Othella Harrington.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...p;te=&cash=

In this trade, Miami may lose some scoring in the paint, but they add a great defensive center who could become the starting center in Miami. Also, Miami gets an expiring contract who can offer depth in the front court for the rest of the season in Harrington. Charlotte has needed a center who can score and Blount has proven that he can do that. Since Charlotte is below the cap at this time, they can afford to take Blount's contract.

These are two trades that I'm proposing at this time. Here is what our lineup would look like with these two trades.

C Nazr Mohammed - Darko Milicic

PF Shawn Marion - Anthony Johnson - Othella Harrington

SF Mike Miller - Ricky Davis

PG Kyle Lowry - Marcus Banks - Chris Quinn

SG Dwayne Wade - Juan Carlos Navarro - Daquean Cook

Then the Heat can go into the draft with no real weak spot and can start building depth into the rotation.

that dallas trade needs to happen for a variety of reasons.

namely harris and diop gone.

kidd in.

spurs matchup 100% better with kidd running the show than harris 7 days out of 7.

nice to see devean george still screwing us over though, and that stuff with stack is just hilarious on so many levels.

uummmm, you are crazy like a fox dood. What the hell is wrong with you? Trade blunt for MOHAMMED!?!? Trade Wright away like its all good? Are you crazy????

There's no way in hell we trade Wright now that he's finally starting to blossom. And Blunt isnt playing that bad, we are getting better games with him at C than with Shaq, as sad as that is.

Not hard to second, but that Grizzlies trade is too one-sided. As much as they gave up Pau for basically nothing (Everyone is clamoring that Marc Gasol might be Pau in a nutshell so we'll see), the Grizz won't and shouldn't deal 2 of their point guards, especially when Conley has injury issues.

I'm not sure if the Heat really are gearing up for a fast paced team. As nice as it is to see them run hard lately, I think it all depends who is there at the beginning of next season. Marion is definitely making his stock rise now that he's performing so well without Nash, so he could be asking for well above $20mil a season if he opts out, which seems likely. I still think Dorrell can thrive in the league. Gotta realize he's still only 22 and he's got a long ways to go. The flashes of brilliance he shows on all sides of the ball make me think so.

For the rest of the season, they should just play it out, see how their young guys fair (Cook, Wright, Barron, Wright), and then hope Riley can do his best at bringing in some great players in the off-season. That free agent list looks sweeter and sweeter every day. As for the draft, who knows. I don't see any true PGs in the draft besides Rose, so he might do. Although Riley never likes playing his young guys too early except Wade.

BREAKING NEWS: Mike Bibby To Atlanta Hawks for 4 Players

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3249180

Lebron must get more upset with his front office with each trade that's made. Good deal for Atlanta except they have no draft picks for '08 now.

Atlanta never traded any draft picks in the Bibby trade, so they still have their second round pick.

That's a strange trade. Atlanta didn't really lose much, but what are they gaining? An injured PG whose best days are behind him.

BREAKING NEWS: Mike Bibby To Atlanta Hawks for 4 Players

Lebron must get more upset with his front office with each trade that's made. Good deal for Atlanta except they have no draft picks for '08 now.

Atlanta never traded any draft picks in the Bibby trade, so they still have their second round pick.

Every current news report I've read has them giving up this year's 2nd round pick. ESPN's Mark Stein even mentioned it in his review of the trade on espn.com

I don't find this trade strange at all. Bibby can still shoot well and while he's not a true PG compared to say Kidd or Nash, I think he improves a glaring hole for Atlanta at that position. This is a team that hasn't had a real point guard since maybe the days of Mookie Blaylock. While 4-5 APG isn't great, I think he can alter his game up enough to bring more assists to the Hawks.

As for the Kings, they're saving money off their salary cap and if they trade Artest, they might have a large amount of money to work with to go after a big name free agent this summer. I'd like to see how Sheldon fairs in Sac-Town, but I'm never confident about Dukies in the NBA.

Williams will be a good player for the Kings if they give him minutes. Never understood why they didn't play him in Atlanta, even before they drafted Horford.

Solid player to build around Martin.

Please Jason williams for eddy curry.

take this big fat POS off my team please!

We have enough scrubs as is.

Lots of rumors floating around Miami right now.

The VC to Knicks, Eddy Curry to Miami, Jason Williams and Ricky Davis to New Jersey trade.

Miami looking to pick up a PG.

Zo maybe being on the trading block.

I think Riley needs to slow down and take his time rebuilding this team. Only make a trade if it is unbelieveable.
