February 1, 200818 yr You knew this was coming, so why not, I posted it. I am excited about the signings we did. McPherson and Gonzalez give our team a new face, and better hope. Here is the lineup I am projecting for opening day. If you feel mine is inaccurate feel free to post your own. 1-Cameron Maybin- Center Field 2-Dan Uggla- Second Base 3- Hanley Ramirez- Shortstop 4-Luis Gonzalez- Left Field 5- Josh Willingham- First Base 6-Jeremy Hermida- Right Field 7-Dallas McPherson- Third Base 8-Matt Treaner- Catcher 9-Sergio Mitre- Starting Pitcher Any thoughts?
February 1, 200818 yr Gonzo will not start... Hammer in Left, Jacobs in 1st... Not sure why there is so much hating on Jacobs.. This year he shines!
February 1, 200818 yr Here's what I'd put on the field opening day: 1. Cameron Maybin 2. Jeremy Hermida 3. Hanley Ramirez 4. Josh Willingham 5. Dan Uggla 6. Mike Jacobs 7. Dallas McPherson 8. Mike Robelo 9. Andrew Miller

Mike Robelo 9. Andrew Miller i like this lineup...but i think we should slide jacobs into the 5 hole...especially if he has a strong spring so we can have more righty/lefty/righty/lefty...but i just want to see willy and whoever provide some protection for manley
February 1, 200818 yr Okay, much against my better judgement I'll play: Jeremy Hermida Cody Ross Hanley Ramirez Dan Uggla Josh Willingham Mike Jacobs Jose Castillo Matt Treanor/Mike Rabelo (absolute toss-up) P I think Uggla bats immediately behind Ramirez for quite a while. I think McPherson won't be ready physically but may be later in the season I think Hermida excels leading off I think Ross has everything to gain by having a torrid spring and will be rewarded I think Jacobs and Willingham may flip-flop in the lineup all season depending on the opposing starter Just pulling stuff out of my a**, I may have a completely different POV tomorrow.

Still it makes sense to split up the lefties and righties. Alot could change quickly if Dallas heats things up in which case he won't be in the 7 hole long.
February 1, 200818 yr Okay, much against my better judgement I'll play: Jeremy Hermida Cody Ross Hanley Ramirez Dan Uggla Josh Willingham Mike Jacobs Jose Castillo Matt Treanor/Mike Rabelo (absolute toss-up) P I think Uggla bats immediately behind Ramirez for quite a while. Not bad, but why not flop Ross and Uggla in the batting order, since the 2-hole seems to be the only place Uggla can hit?
February 2, 200818 yr Prediction: Maybin Uggla - he's "comfortable" here. I guess :/ Ramirez Hermida Willingham Jacobs Castillo Treanor P What I would prefer: Maybin Hermida Ramirez Willingham Uggla Jacobs Castillo Treanor
February 2, 200818 yr I don't know what the lineup will be, but I'ma kill a puppy if they put ahead of Hammer again this year.
February 2, 200818 yr This years line up is difficult to construct because we really don't have a true leadoff man besides Maybin, and a lot of people are saying Maybin will spend a few months in the minors to add some seasoning and experience. So what are we to do without a leadoff man for a few months? The only thing guaranteed is that Hanley will bat third, because obviously you want to have your best hitter hitting third, and that is exactly what Hanley is; our best hitter. Other than that, it's up in the air. I saw that 2003 suggested hitting Hermida leadoff. I like his on base percentage and sweet-swing, but in my opinion, hitting Hermida leadoff just wouldn't unleash the best of his abilities. Hermida would probably be better off hitting 2nd or 4th. I thinkI'll put him 2nd in my lineup because he's a lefty and hits the ball to the right side a lot, plus he gets on base a ton and is just an all around good hitter. It may take away from his RBI total and other production numbers, but I think it would be the best thing to do. Now the question is who will leadoff until Maybin is called up? It really depends on who wins the thrid base job. If Castillo wins it, then I guess you could plug him in the leadoff spot for a little bit, even though he really isn't a leadoff hitter...but he's really the only viable option because you can't hit Jacobs, Willingham, Uggla or Rabelo here...so Jose Castillo (by default) gets the nod for me. I'll put Willingham at clean up because he is a pretty legit slugger. Fifth I'll put Uggla because he hits a lot of homers but hits for too low of an average, doest get on base enough, and strikes out too much to hit any lower than fifth. I'll put Jacobs at sixth. Hitting seventh for me will be whoever plays center field, whether it be Cody Ross, Luis Gonzalez, or whoever. Eigth will be Rabelo. So here is what my "pre Maybin callup" (assuming he starts out in the minors) line up looks like. 1.Jose Castillo/Jorge Cantu *3B 2.Jeremy Hermida RF 3.Hanley Ramirez SS 4. Josh Willingham LF 5.Dan Uggla 2B 6. Mike Jacobs 1B 7. Cody Ross/Luis Gonzalez *CF 8. Mike Rabelo/Matt Treanor * C 9. Pitcher * indicates whoever wins the job THEN what I would do is...when I call maybin up; my lineup will look like this 1.Cameron Maybin CF 2. Jeremy Hermida RF 3. Hanley Ramires SS 4.Josh Willingham LF 5.Dan Uggla 2B 6.Mike Jacobs 1B 7.Dallas McPherson 3B 8.Mike Rabelo/Matt Treanor C
February 2, 200818 yr this is what i would like to see 1.Cameron Maybin CF 2. Jeremy Hermida RF 3. Hanley Ramires SS 4.Josh Willingham LF 5.Mike Jacobs 1B 6.Dan Uggla 2B 7.Dallas McPherson 3B 8.Matt Treanor C I really like Hermida in the 2 spot and agree that Hanley should be batting 3rd. Would like to see Uggla produce in the 6th spot and if McPherson can hit well in the 7th spot thats even better for us. I suppose the 4 & 5th spot will be changed depending on a RHP or LHP like last year.
February 2, 200818 yr With Hanley and Maybin being the only two "legitimate" lead-off hitters on the roster, what are the chances of Hanley hitting lead-off if Maybin's not ready out of Spring Training? I think it's a very realistic possibility. I agree that eventually Hanley will move further down in the order, but this year, he's more valuable as a leadoff hitter due to his combination of OBP and Speed. No one else on the roster even comes close to stealing 50 bases and scoring 120 runs. When you look at Hanley as a 3-hole hitter, there are plenty of players on the roster who are capable of matching his 30 HR's and 90 RBI's in Willingham, Jacobs, Uggla, and Ross. So, just for giggles: 1. Hanley Ramirez - SS 2. Jeremy Hermida - RF 3. Josh Willingham - LF 4. Mike Jacobs - 1B 5. Dan Uggla - 2B 6. Cody Ross - CF 7. 3B 8. C 9. P
February 2, 200818 yr I'd love to see Hammer 1B (Best eye in the lineup) L.Gonzalez LF (Lowest SLG when it comes to good OBP guys in the lineup) Hermida RF (I perfer a OBP guy over a SLG guy for the three hole, and Hermida just barely beats Hanley there) Hanley SS Uggla 2B Ross CF (Uggla/Ross really interchagable) McPherson 3B Treanor C (Go Treanor! I hope it's possible he can win the job in ST but I have a feeling it's Rabelo's regardless) What I think it'll be Maybin CF Uggla 2B Hanley SS Luis Gonzalez LF Hermida RF Mike Jacobs/Josh Willingham 1B McPherson 3B Rabelo C :-(

P I agree with you that Hanley should lead of this year. At least to start the season until Maybin is comfortable. I also think Maybin should hit 2nd until he is ready to lead off. It's less pressure on the kid especially if Hanley is leading off and is always on base for the kid. Therefore, this would be my lineup: Hanley Maybin Hermida Hammer Jacobs Uggla McPhearson Rabelo
February 2, 200818 yr Versus Righties 1.Cameron Maybin- CF 2.Jeremy Hermida- RF 3.Hanley Ramirez- SS 4.Mike Jacobs- 1B 5.Josh Willingham-LF 6.Dan Uggla-2B 7.Dallas McPherson- 3B 8.Mike Rabelo- C Versus Lefties(opening day=Santana) 1.Cameron Maybin- CF 2.Dan Uggla- 2B 3.Hanley Ramirez- SS 4.Josh Willingham- LF 5.Luis Gonzalez- 1B 6.Jeremy Hermida- RF 7.Jose Castillo- 3B 8.Mike Rabelo- C

There is no reason to take at bats away from Jacobs to give to Gonzalez. Espcially when they ar both left handed. Gonzalez is most likely our lefty bat off of the bench, and extra OF/1b to give guys a day off here and there. Besides, this is no longer the 30 hr Gonzo of the past.
February 2, 200818 yr Gonzalez will NOT start over Jacobs. I will garuntee that's not what the organization was thinking when they signed him. He will be primarily used as a back-up for Willingham and spot starts at first base will be rare. The "veteran leadership" he is supposed to provide will be coming off the bench. And even if he did start, he shouldn't be anywhere in the 1-5 spots in the lineup. On a Willingham rest day, u stick him in the 6 hole and slide Jacobs up to replace Josh at clean-up.
February 2, 200818 yr even though gonzalez will probably get spot starts at first to give jacobs days off...id love to see willy get some time there...especially on days we are facing lefties...so say maybin is on the big club maybin hermida hanley willy uggla mcphereson/cantu/castillo ross rabelo i think this lineup would be more than capable against lefties
