April 2, 200818 yr I am not trying to agree with espn, because they suck. But espnews had andino's shot as their high performance play of the night.
April 2, 200818 yr Aside from a very small hardcore group of fans, no one cares about the Florida Marlins and I think making a thread about every time ESPN "disrespects" us is ridiculous and shows absolutely no perspective.
April 2, 200818 yr Aside from a very small hardcore group of fans, no one cares about the Florida Marlins I don't think it is necessarily that they don't care about the Marlins, but the fact that we are perceived as of right as a losing team, and probably rightly so. We don't have any stars except for Hanley, and he does get attention. Marlins2003 nailed it when he said that winning brings national coverage.
April 2, 200818 yr At least we don't get made fun of by tv shows. I saw an episode of the Simpson's where they made fun of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Yeah, It's my belief, that for better or worse, fans have grown accustomed to the marlins re-building themselves a winner. We win, everyone becomes a fan, we tear down... nobody cares for a few years... we win again, draw the huge crowds again... wash, rinse, repeat... It'll be interesting when we can routinely field a competitive team of course, this is all my opinion
April 3, 200818 yr And the headline wasn't "Marlins win" - it was "Mets lose in 10th" ESPN sucks... it'll just make shocking the world even sweeter! Actually it was: The only one that called it in 2003 on ESPN was Jeff Brantley. He was on us from late July through August & September. Of course ESPN has rewarded him with his pink slip. :whistle PEDRO INJURED AGAIN!!! Mets lose in 10 to other team
April 3, 200818 yr The name on the uniform is not Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Cubs or Dodgers on it and will never get the type of media attention as those other teams. Also, low payroll and low attendance doesn't exactly scream out "look at us". Its time to start accepting the fact that this team may never get the respect or attention it deserves. You just have to suck it up, live with it and smirk when the Fish do well and have to watch all the media type guys give atleast some ounce of credit to them. Take it for what its worth.
April 3, 200818 yr I would have not pegged "Game 2" for an over/under as to when the first whining "ESPN doesn't respect us" thread would start. Who cares?!?!? ESPN does not throw strikes! ESPN does not hit to the opposite field. FOX SPORTS does not throw a runner out. It doesn't matter what other people think, but what happens between the lines on the field. If you need a national sports show to validate your feelings for a team, then perhaps the problem is with you and not with the media.

Right now (on paper) the marlins do not look like they will be competative. Outside the relm of the diehard marlins fans, you would be hard pressed to find someone who could name 5 players outside of Hanley Ramirez. Couple that with the fact that the two most recognizable players on the team were traded last offseason. You really can't blame ESPN for not spending that much time on the marlins. Once they start winning, then people will notice. Until then, ESPN will continue to cover the red sox, yankees, mets, cubs, etc... until another team steps up midseason.
April 3, 200818 yr Okay dummies..... I don't know why I am even responding to this, but there is a simple reason that ESPN does not show that many Marlins highlights, and it is the same reason you don't see them spending a lot of time on the Pirates, Royals, Nationals, Orioles, or Rays. And that reason is that outside of those teams' respective cities, NOBODY CARES ABOUT THEM!!! ESPN is not a local or even regional station, and if I was a Red Sox or Yankees fan living in Wyoming or North Dakota and had to sit through highlights of Paul Hoover, Rick Vanden Hurk, Mike Jacobs, and guys like that just to make the people who post on MB.Com happy, I would cancel my cable subscription immediately. You are fans of a small market team that sucks. Find a way to enjoy it. if I may ask, why are you a Marlins fan? I'm glad you're not a Cubs fan...you might've been dead a long time ago, if that were the case.
April 3, 200818 yr how many Cleveland basketball games did ESPN show before LeBron James got there? ESPN is about promoting superstars, I don't agree with it but thats the way it is.... if the Fish were a team predicted to win 95 games with a few more superstars then they would get plenty of airtime, and if the Yanks were a terrible last place team, and believe me I remember back when they were, ESPN wouldn't show them either...
