And we get less respect from the Media

I come here every day and read the boards but never really post, but i feel I have to get this out.

Something small, but something I dont get at all.

How, in a rivalry game, in extra innings, does a walk off homerun not make the top 10 plays on SportsCenter? I know it sounds funny but if I can quote Peter Griffin, that really grinds my gears. I dont know if anyone else noticed it but that made me mad.

BTW, went to the game last night, section 150 row 18 and actually was surrounded was enjoyable Mets fans. (Yes I know that sounds like an oxymoron lol)

And the plays that did make the Top 10 were pretty bad if you ask me. A walkoff is always the #1 play, except when its the Marlins. The only reason we were shown on Sportscenter at all the last 2 games was because Santana made his Met debut, and Pedro mad ehis "comeback". Im used to it though

I've gotten over the whole media bias thing a long time ago.

However, I do think it's highly likely that if it were a Mets player with the home run there would have been considerably more national media coverage. Face it, it was a no named player on a no named team. I really didn't expect anything more.

like 2003 and to a lesser degree 2006, nothing beats winning to get national and even local media types to swear on a bible they knew the marlins had it in them and that must have been a different john kruk who said the fish would lose a hundred games this season.

I don't let it bother me anymore. Even though I watched SC like usual and this time expecting to see Andino's walkoff in the top 10, I wasn't disappointed when it wasn't there. But yea, It sucks that the story is only "Pedro's Hurt Game", "Mets Lose in 10 Game". You know damn well if poster boy David Wright hit a walkoff in the 10th inning it would be the #1 play, and baseball tonight would be taking his pants off and anointing him the early MVP. The only time we break SC/espn.com is when they are telling us that ARods salary is more then the Marlins entire roster...O well

I was thinking the same thing when I was watching SportsCenter this morning. I couldn't believe how Andino's walk-off didn't make the top ten.

But yesterday, the FSN Florida Intern/Ballboy who face-planted diving for a foul ball makes the top ten...

I don't get it. SportsCenter almost seems like a stand-up comedian show rather than watching sports highlights. Scott Van Pelt gets out of control a lot! I like him, but he needs to cut back on the comedy.

Thank God BBTN is still decent, although Kruk is pretty much running the show.

John Kruk is probably right. One walkoff doesn't change that. That still doesn't change the fact that absolutely nobody has made mention of a walkoff HR.

I made that up about kruk, I don't know that he said it, I was using him as "everyman" at ESPN and the 100 game thing was a euphimism for all the trash talk in the network. my point is that they'll change their tune and quickly as we've seen before if the teams has a respectable season. But I agree a kid in his first regular season (as opposed to Sept call-up) game (am I wrong about that?) hitting a walk-off homerun against the Mets no less does deserve mention and a clip if not a top ten. You have no argument with me there.

Andino's walk-off was "The Big Moment" on FSN's The Final Score. You'd think these two channels are reporting from different planets the way TV journalism works.

Is it a big deal? Maybe not to us. But, to the team? You bet.

That sh*t is now a top story on the MSN page.

Awesome quote from A-Rod though:

"The Marlins? It's amazing," Rodriguez said. "And they still seem to find a way to be very competitive. They have a great pool of talent; they made some unbelievable trades, so they have great personnel people. To win two championships in 11 years, that's really admirable, and I'm very proud of that organization, being from Miami."

And Brian Cashman:

"They've won a championship more recently than we have as an organization. So there's many different ways to skin a cat," said Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, whose team lost to Florida in the 2003 World Series. "Alex earned that contract in the negotiation. Right now, the Marlins are in a different place. But they've got a stadium coming on board and they're going in the right direction, and I think they've already proven they know how to build something."

No big deal, really.

And don't watch Baseball Tonight, either.

Between Karl Ravech, who hates the Marlins, it seems, and John Kruk (the biggest Phillies homer in the world), to go alongside Steve Phillips (a baseball moron), it really is pointless. I think I know as much as Steve Phillips (judging by his horrendus trades, while being GM for the Mets).

get over it!

once this team starts putting money on the field then this team will get attention. We should be glad that at least Hanley gets support from the media.

Let's just enjoy this team ourselves. I can care less what the local or national media think. I've been in a great mood all day because of that homerun last night. Can't wait to catch tonights game.. Not that your complaints aren't legit. Just don't let them ruin your fun.

Alex Rodriguez might be laughing in this photo, but I swear this isn't an April Fool's joke. The Associated Press just did a study of baseball's contracts and found that the Yankees third baseman makes more than the entire roster of the Florida Marlins combined.

Not by a little, either.

At $28 million a year, A-Rod makes much more than the 33-member Marlins opening day squad (a total that includes its disabled list), which will take home a relatively shallow pool of $21.8 million in 2008.

While that's still a lot for any group of any people to split, it illustrates just how unbalanced baseball salaries can be in today's game. No wonder the Marlins don't have very many fans. Why waste your time with an owner who isn't even pretending to field a competitive team?

Here are a few other staggering facts about Florida's sad excuse for a payroll, which has been compressed as far as possible by owner Jeffrey Loria, who *claims* to be waiting for the Marlins' new stadium to open in 2011 to start spending money.

? Florida's highest earner, reliever Kevin Gregg, doesn't even make the league average of $3.15 million per season. (He'll make $2.5 million in '08.)

? Mets pitcher Johan Santana makes $12 million a year more than Florida's entire starting rotation.

? The Marlins' payroll is less than half of the next-lowest team, the Tampa Bay Rays ($43.8 million).

Of course, the ironic part is that while the Yankees will again be the top spending team with a $209.1 million payroll, the Marlins have won a World Series more recently (2003) than the ol' Bronx Bombers (2000). And, yes, Loria was technically Florida's owner back then.

Still, that's no excuse for him to field one of the barest bones teams that baseball has ever seen. If it weren't so pathetic, it'd be a lot funnier than it already seems.

Who the f*** is "Duk"?

No one on this is site is the problem however it was disappointing to me when I looked at the box score to see the attendance at a little over 15,000. Second game of the season , against a division rival , nice weather , night time game , VERY DISAPPOINTING :thumbdown

Especially after the two Yankee games, and opening day all passing the 30k mark.

What can I say, those dirty, dirty Met fans let us down.

I agree we get no respect and it's upsetting. But look at it from their perspective, we are the Marlins. Our President and ownershipnis an embarrassment. They obviously don't care about the fans so why should the national media.

I think if we averaged closer to 30 k a game instead of 15k game the media focus would be on the ownership not the lack of support , but until we go to games this will continue
