so...ok...im watching the free preview of the atlanta and pittsburgh game tonight...top of the 10th, Our old friend Chris Resop into the game, who walks a guy who advance to third and then walks jason bay...and then is taken out and placed in left field while a lefty comes in to strike out laroche...and then they bring resop back into pitch while putting another guy in to play left field...

weird as hell...but within the rules all the same i guess...haha...never seen it before in my life

Davey Johnson did this with the Mets back in the '80s in an extra-inning game against the Reds. He ran out of position players and had Jesse Orosco and Roger McDowell in the game at the same time and swapped them between left-field and pitching depending on whether the batter was lefty or righty.

it sure blew up on us big time, but that was crazy, putting him in left field for one batter and then getting someone else back in. not against the rules, but very odd (i always thought when you are done pitching, that's it for the day).

I did that a few times in MLB 2k7 with Dontrelle. But I've never seen it done in real life. Crazy.

Sort of reminds me of the time Cabrera swung at a pitch when Baltimore was trying to intentionally walk him.

I knew I had seen that before but couldn't remember where and when, thanks for that info........

Rollie Fingers, in the 72 series, stuck out johnny bench looking after the catcher was standing up signalling for an intentional walk, the catcher crouched back down and strike 3.......

I seem to remember Pitcher Chuck McElroy play the OF in the 90s, I think it was with the Mets too. Don't know if it was the same situation as this.

Resop was an outfielder before converting to a pitcher, right?

Yeah, he played OF 01-03, but started pitching at some point during 03. Good catch boss.

When I opened this thread I was soooo sure it was about Hanpton pulling up lame in the bullpen. Anyway...

It seems to me there was a game like that with the Pirates in 78-79 that Tanner revolved Tekulve and another pitcher in the same way, watch baseball long enough and there is always something that you'll see that you've never seen.
