Postgame Thoughts 4/5

Featured Replies

Good defense:

-Carroll throws out another runner

-Only one error, and it was Cantu's throw which really didn't mean a whole lot.

Good pitching:

-Hendrickson turns in a decent start

-Bullpen=Excellent

Timely hitting:

-Jake's jack

-Treanor's squeeze

-Carroll's triple

And all around good game.

This was one of the most exciting games I've gone to in quite a while, and not just because there's been no baseball since September.

So when is Jack McKeon coming back? (j/k)

Positives

1. Jacobs. What a clutch HR.

2. Defense. Once again, Carroll with a nice throw. Aside from Cantu's little blunder (which did cost us 2 runs), it was another flawless game defensively.

3. Hendrickson. I dislike him, and I find him boring, but going 5.1 innings tonight was huge, and Freddi (I think) took him out too early (only 88 pitches). It was big, and it saved Nolasco (in case VandenHurk gets wild tomorrow early in the ballgame, and increases his pitch count).

4. The bullpen. 3.2 scoreless innings. Pinto did a great job to get McLouth. Biggest out of the game. Miller gives us not 1, but 2 scoreless (1, 2, 3) innings. Helped save the pen for tomorrow going multiple innings, and Miller looks like he's the primary option to be the setup guy. And Lindstrom...well, he was bringing the heat tonight.

5. The Wes Helms acquisition. MORE depth. Depth is good.

6. We're in 1st place (it's early...but every game counts, no?...and lets face it, no one envisioned us sitting atop the division, even if it was only 1 day, so surprise, surprise)

Negatives

1. Kensing struggled a bit tonight. Nothing major, imo.

And that granny was just out of my reach. Oh well. Gotta call the folks and let them know if they want to see me, turn on ESPN this morning.

If meeting Admin is the highlight of your day, you must lead a sad life.

crushed rock particles > Admin Walansky

A buddy of mine decided to join me and EvenLittler on Saturday, so instead of going to our seats we just "planted" ourselves in the Terrace Box (first row right along the Pirates bullpen). Right after Jake's granny, I turn to my buddy and said, "Crap, that one went over to our 'real seats!'" But then again, you can't beat sitting right in the visiting team's bullpen (two straight nights EvenLittler and myself have managed to sit there without the "real owners," if there are any, showing up -- we're going to do it again today) and having Pirates closer Matt Capps give EvenLittler a ball.

Great game last night. Logan Kensing had me nervous but other than that a great game played by the fish. The concert was fun too.

Finally got around to seeing the highlight of the Slam and I saw myself! Woohoo! After the show Jacobs rounding 2nd, the camera pans back across the fishtank and the guy with the open black jersey in the front row is me! Sweet!

Not quite to your seats. Think it hit about the 4th or 5th row. I know it was just barely out of my reach. Saw you guys before the game and was looking for ya during it. Figured you had done what you said. Then I thought I saw ya again on Sunday walking down to the Strike Zone. Figured I was mistaken because you usually are only there on Saturdays.

We watched the Minnows perform down there. Good bunch of kids. And the smallest girl and boy can really dance!!! Not that the rest can't, but those two are just so cute to watch. I don't know why alot of folks are complaining about the dance teams. The kids are really cute and appear to be having the times of their lives. And at least at the ball park, the Manatees are well taken.

Yeah, we went to all three games of the series. My son and I stayed in Miami this weekend at my parents' place starting on Friday night so that we didn't do the drive to and from Lake Worth for each game. On Sunday, we again bought the Fish Tank seats, but sat in Section 106, Row 1 for the third straight day. We love those seats because of the proximity to the visitors bullpen. Yesterday, Matt Capps signed the baseball he gave my son on Saturday night and I joked with him that he's one of the closers on my Rotisserie team so it was a "shame" he didn't get a save. He laughed it off. Also, there was a group of kids in our section that kept asking Tyler Yates if he could throw a sinker. Yates giggled at them, and I then said, "Oh, c'mon Tyler, you can't throw a sinker?" Yates responded, "Not without it going somewhere it ain't supposed to go!"
