MIAMI -- Marlins left fielder Josh Willingham was scratched from Tuesday's lineup after experiencing stiffness in his back during pregame warmups.

Off to a strong start, batting .341 with six home runs and 16 RBIs, Willingham was replaced in left field by Luis Gonzalez.

 

Willingham has dealt with back issues in the past. He missed most of last September with a herniated disk. He entered Tuesday's series opener with the Dodgers third on the team in at-bats with 91. The decision to sit him out came less than an hour before the first pitch.

 

Hitting in the cleanup spot, the native of Florence, Ala., recently had a career-high 12-game hitting streak snapped. He has hit safely in 14 of 15 games.

 

Willingham is day-to-day.
