Backin2008
I bet you could get either of these guys for pennies on a dollar because they are both buried in their organizations. Cory Sullivan has played in 25 games in AAA ball this season and he is 36 for 109 (.330 avg, .862 OPS) with 21 runs scored, 3 homers and 14 RBIs. Jeremy Reed has played in 28 games in AAA for the Mariners and he is 42 for 112 (.375 avg, 1.030 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 5 homers, 19 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. CYmarlins
We have discussed them as options in the past when talking about CF candidates. But I just dont think the Marlins want them.
upstatenyfishfan
it doesnt make sense to make a trade for a CF right now especially with the future CF in AA. Why send away talent (most likely pitching) for a centerfield who will play the rest of this season? It makes much more sense to stick with Ross and Amezaga until De Aza returns, one of them will provide a serviceable option until Maybe arrives next year. Backin2008
So keeping a marginal minor league pitcher instead of trading one to upgrade CF makes sense?
Fish4Life
Why all this CF talk??? Its getting pretty annoying... We solved that in the offseason by getting Maybin...
Backin2008
The center field talk is about this season not the future. Watching Amezaga and Ross everyday is pretty bad.
Admin
Amezaga and Ross are more than adequate CF options. Carroll could very well surprise us too. It is idiotic at this point to trade/sign resources to get a temporary option for centerfield.

Rydawg
The center field talk is about this season not the future. Watching Amezaga and Ross everyday is pretty bad. Maybe offensively, but defensively they've been pretty solid. Especially Amezega.
Psycho Sid
Did a new thread need to be started for this? There's already a thread titled 'Centerfield' (!!!!) on the first page.
Nny
Amezaga is hitting .261/.378/.362 against RHP this year and plays plus defense. No his offense isn't amazing and the OBP will drop. But getting a OBP driven low to mid .700 OPS while playing great defense is servicable for a CFer, more than what Jones would give us most likely. We have two bigger positional problems, nor does it solves the largest problem we have (pitching). Â If we were to land a plus CFer for one year than that's gravy. But the only FA is Kenny Lofton who likely won't come here. And the only guy who's a trade candidate and that's a FA at the end of the year that I can think of would be Milton Bradley, who I certainly wouldn't be opposed to us grabbing and was hoping we'd sign this past offseason. But at 6m (if he hits all his PA incentives) he's likely out of our price range anyway. So in other words, there aren't many plus options out there. Tee Ball Bunt Machine
You know, we gave up Willis & Cabrera, in part to solve our CF dilemma for the future, so I don't see the sense in giving up any other significant talent. So unless these organizations have a thing for Jason Wood or such, I can't imagine a reason to do something like this.

Admin
Doesn't matter what their motivations were. Completely irrelevant. They had a position in mind that they wanted to address and they did (CF).
Backin2008
42 whiffs in 107 at bats at AA? I'm not impressed with any of the players the Marlins got from the Tigers.

For most of the guys, we didn't get them to pay dividends in the first month of this season....we got Miller, Badenhop, Maybin, etc. for down the road. Give them time to develop. The defense has been better than average and his bat hasn't been terrible... He works the count every time and makes contact..

I said in part. They could've easily just given them up for the money, but instead they looked for the right prospects to bring in.  42 whiffs in 107 at bats at AA?
