May 20, 200818 yr I'm happy for you Rays fans but I can't help but feel stingy how writers are already starting to call you guys legit and not even mention the marlins. The Marlins are destined to fail. So says the media, yet we already have 2 trophies on our side. We've done it before. I mean, are we really that different? You guys have a great pitching staff, we have a great offense. The same people who keep saying it's still not June are already crowning your butts! I'm inclined to suggest we drop the "lins" in our name and call ourselves the Florida Mars.... I take that back. :| My best wishes to the Tampa Bay Rays. Winning teams bring good exposure on Florida sports and thats always nice.

I mean, c'mon, you guys have Dan Uggla. :mischief Rays beat the A's on consecutive nights, 5-4 in 13 Tuesday morning and 3-2 Wednesday morning. Navarro scored all three runs with a bases-clearing double that got by a sliding Emil Brown. A's also had two costly fielding errors.

June 20, 200818 yr Rays beat the Cubs tonight led by a 7 run 7th inning. They've now swept the 1st place Red Sox 1st place Angels 1st place Cubs @ home Maybe losing 2 of 3 in Tampa wasn't such a bad thing, eh? :thumbup
June 20, 200818 yr They've also been swept by the Red Sox twice. I think they are going to make it to the playoffs but not sure what is going to happen then. Their pitching is great, but their hitting is subpar. It's all going to come down to how they are going to if there pitching can hold up in the playoffs, because they aren't going to get much run support.

June 20, 200818 yr Pitching and defense wins championships. If the Rays get decent hitting, they can go far. You never know in the playoffs. It's usually not the best team, but more like the hottest. Just look at our '03 team...we won mainly b/c of our power pitching and our great defense. Also, the speed in our lineup was incredible (with Pierre and Castillo, etc.)...the Rays also have great speed in their lineup. For what it's worth, I'm not saying they'll win...or even make the playoffs, for that matter. But they'll definitely be contending in September.

Granted that they weren't great whatsoever at the beginning of the year, they're averaging 4.75 runs per game this month and they've scored 7 or more four times. Clearly, when they need to be, they can be explosive.

Speed allows you to steal bases, go from 1st to 3rd, etc., etc. Plus, it makes pitchers think when the speed gets on base. ...their lineup isn't terrible, for what it's worth. Crawford, Upton, Pena (who's not even playing), and Longoria aren't bad. They're like us, in a way, b/c they have a good mixture of youth and experience...
