Should we make a move for Maddux?

Recommended Posts

Hearing how the Pads GM came out tonight and said there could be wholesale changes, could we possibly be in play for Maddux? I think he would be a good acquisition on and off the field. The pictching version of a Luis Gonzalez. Thoughts?

maddux has the right to veto any trade, and he repeatedly has said that he doesnt want to come to the east coast. but if he believes that we will make the playoffs and possibly go deep with his presence, id say it would be tempting for him. everyone wants to go out a winner... i could see maddux attempting a darren daulton down here.

but, its early, and like 2003 said, we have jj, mitre, and maybe sanchez on the way back. however, not many teams have relied on two or three starting pitchers coming back into the rotation from major injuries and succeeded (i cant think of one). lets see how they do... and if we still are in serious contention and still could use a starter come july (both situations i see to be likely) we should strongly consider bringing him on board. i think he would be huge for us.

keep in mind, randy wolf would also be available.

I think when those guys come back they'll be in our bullpen for awhile. Don't expect Freddy to rush them back that'll be stupid, especially in a winning season.

Maddux calls his own shots and he just wants to be close to home. No chance Maddux moves to Miami. Besides, Wally Joyner is the Padres hitting coach now... who wouldn't want to be a Padre.

Everyone on the team?

Pretty much! Anybody see Chris Young get hit in the face by a Pujols line drive?
