Could Phils add Holliday?

According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies were discussing a deal that would have brought outfielder Matt Holliday and closer Brian Fuentes to Philadelphia in exchange for a package of players, likely consisting of outfielder Shane Victorino, left-hander J.A. Happ, Double-A right-hander Carlos Carrasco and Double-A catcher Lou Marson. However, the talks have since stalled and it is unlikely that deal will be revisited.

He's hitting .301 with a .400 OBP and a .859 OPS away....I'd take that any day of the week from my LF.

This sort of reminds me of Mark Teixiera. Look at how his #'s no longer look the same, since he got to Atlanta.

He's hitting .301 with a .400 OBP and a .859 OPS away....I'd take that any day of the week from my LF.

Regardless, an .859 OPS is nothing to scoff at. Even then, it's normal to drop when away. (Though usually not to that extent.) Taking the league average away/home drop, his regular home would still be around, if not over, .900 OPS.

 

The argument against it would be that it's two easy to slug in Colorado, but remember that shoebox that the Phillies hit in. He'd still keep that up huge home split up.

Lidge is signed for 3 years. Fuentes would have been their SETUP GUY! Thank god this didn't happen.

OH MY GOD! If this trade happened i wouldve had to deal with so much. My relatives who are phillies fans, my little brother(phillies fan, we dont talk much from April to november) and the fact that the phillies get to good players to help them win the division.

Put ANY power hitter in that park that doesn't normally play there you could probably just tack .100 points on his OPS...

Teixeira is also overrated but not as much as Holiday.

Holliday's Road OPS has also improved every year since he broke into the league. I'd understand if Holliday's road OPS was consistently bad throughout his career, but the dude's been posting road OPS's over .850 on the road the last couple of years. His road OPS the last few years is just 40 points lower than Hanley's career OPS, and is higher than Uggla's career OPS. Is he better at home than he is on the road? Of course. Most players that play in a hitter's park will have numbers like that. I don't think that makes him overrated though.

He'd be just as good at Philly as he would at Coors, so that's a moot point.

 

That said, in the last 3 years he has OPSed .820, .859, and .860 on the road. That's pretty damn good.

Citizens is nowhere near the hitters park that Coors is and they are hitters parks for completely different reasons so you shouldn't assume he would take advantage of Citizens as he has done of Coors.

 

Holliday's road OPS the last three seasons is good but not great and he's suppose to be great. If he was supposed to be good then he wouldn't be overrated. He's supposed to be great and he's not meaning he's overrated.

 

This is where he ranked in Road OPS the last three seasons:

 

'06 - 71st (minimum 250 PAs)

'07 - 39th (minimum 250 PAs)

'08 - 42nd (minimum 150 PAs)

 

Those rankings are not great.

I would say that Citizens Bank is a bigger hitters park than Coors (thats without looking at any stats though).
