Tank/Tucker trade rumor

Featured Replies

I wouldnt mind giving up tucker for fuentes, but it would basically have to be a straight up trade. Im not interested in losing two prospects for a half year player.......

Tucker has potential, but he's far from considered a sure, can't miss prospect. The future is never certain. Yeah sure, we might trade for a player and miss the playoffs entirely, but for all we know it might be the best chance they have in the next five years.

And for all we know, we get Fuentes, we miss the playoffs, and Tucker becomes a stud, elsewhere. Works both ways.

It's not worth it.

Again, as I said...you want an upgrade for the bullpen? How about a guy you don't have to trade a 21 year old pitcher for? Will Ohman anyone?

There are cheaper options, who can get the job done just as well, for what this team needs (which is just an effective reliever to get lefties out, and compliment Nelson and Pinto, in middle relief).

If we're trading Tucker AND MORE (good chance they're asking for more than 1 prospect, at this point) for a 2 month rental (Fuentes), then I would hope the Rockies would add a guy like Chris Ianetta to the deal.

Are you Ohman's agent? You're really trying to push this guy on us. How about Mitre for Ohman

Let's suppose that the Marlins DO keep Tucker, and he becomes a stud. Now let's suppose some other things go wrong with the team (injuries, etc). Even if Tucker becomes a stud, there's no guarantee that you are going to win in the future. And if ONE PLAYER makes such a big difference, then your roster is poorly constructed to begin with. A LOT of things are going to have to go right for the Marlins to be in this position again. Do you think, three years from now, the NL East will be this wide open? That's VERY unlikely. You HAVE to go for it NOW. The Marlins have NEVER been this close to the top of the division at this point in the season. NEVER.

We lead the division at this point in 1997.

i agree with Erick. You dont trade a 21 year old pitching prospect with a 98 MPH fastball and a good change-up for a guy who isnt even that big of a need. Unless the rockies give us fuentes and another good prospect, then it's different.

We'd ALL love to swap out Tank and not Tucker, but for just Tank, we're not going to get anything. He has sucked this year. We'd have to throw in a Tucker-type (and we have PLENTY of pitching depth remember) to get somebody that'll be worth anything.

No, not really. Just look at the guy I mentioned in this thread (Ohman). Perfect fit; you wouldn't have to give up a Ryan Tucker.

As a matter of fact, it's no problem. By the 31st, when teams like the Rockies see that a team like the Marlins isn't budging (which Beinfest won't), the asking price will go down, as the deadline gets closer.

Who says the Rockies will budge? I'm sure they'd be happy enough to keep Fuentes and get two draft picks as compensation when he leaves as a free-agent. They don't HAVE to get rid of him. But a lot of teams want Fuentes, so if it comes to a bidding war, I'm not sure the price WILL go down. Maybe one of the buyers will blink first.

1. I do think the Marlins can compete next year, the year after, and the year after that. As a fan, those are my expectations. And why not? Our players that we have now (at least the core guys) are locked beyond this year.

2. You guys are overrating Brian Fuentes. As 1 guy said earlier, this is a guy, who, at most, is going to give you 1 inning. The Yankees just got Marte AND Nady, and traded ONE very good prospect. That was it. Brian Fuentes isn't worth a 21 year old pitcher with potential. I hate to mention Ohman, again, but I will. There are tons of lefties who can upgrade this team FOR THE NOW, without having to sacrifice the future.

If this was for C.C Sabathia or Rich Harden (an ace you can give the ball to every 5 days, and feel confident you have a chance to win)...fine with me, if you want to trade Tucker + others. For Brian Fuentes (a 1 inning guy)...no thanks.

YES OHMAN. I love it

I don't think it's us overrating Fuentes as much as the Rockies, based on what people are hearing they want for him. Based on that, that's why some people on here (I think) are making somewhat outrageous trade proposals for him, knowing the Rockies want a lot.

We have enough quality bullpen arms. We don't need to give up top prospects to fix an issue that isn't our biggest problem.

The thing is we stand a chance this post season if we can make it... so we may end up being buyers... you cant keep on bidding on prospects when the whole point is to win a world series.. if gaining a good arm in the bullpen for right now means that we will win a division, I would be willing to give that small chip in our future away.

Marlins will trade Mike Jacobs and Daniel Barone for George Sherill, yep u heard it here first

Get rid of Jacobs and get a productive bat, thanks.

ok, add Aubrey Huff to the deal and Brett Sinkbol, i believe we have a successful deal for both teams.

Get rid of Jacobs and get a productive bat, thanks.

Productive bat where?

The only position we would need is catcher, and there aren't many catchers who can hit, on the market.

yea los tigres have to be back 15 games to deal pudge and i really dont think ramon hernadez qould help as much as pudge would

Hoover won't be here for long.

As "meh" as Matt Treanor is, he's a helluva lot better than Paul Hoover. I don't even know how Paul Hoover got this far, really. He looks like he doesn't even belong, more often than not.

I'm sure they would want more than 2 AAA catchers, and a pitcher who's far away from the big leagues...for Pudge Rodriguez. :|

we all have dreams, i at one point dreamed of rooting for an owner who is willing to spend the league average at least once, but those dreams died quickly, we are in reality and in reality the only real option for the marlins is Yorvit Torrealba at catcher, Borowski, maybe Sherill for the closer role

Loria already said he would increase payroll.

The last time we were in this situation, he let Beinfest get Urbina and Conine. That seemed to work out well.

Btw, we better not get Joe Borowski.
