July 30, 200818 yr I read a lot of people saying he is not good with RISP because he gets nothing to hit. So do you think it would benefit him to move him down in the order? Maybe pitchers would be forced to pitch to him more often if he had guys like Cantu or Willingham batting around him? But then who is the lead off hitter is questionable.

Exactly That and he's produced much better as a leadoff hitter, than he has as a 3rd hitter, in his young career.
July 30, 200818 yr hanley has been struggling as of late...only other option for leadoff would be amezaga....after that nobody. i mean if we got someone like willie taveras or something then he can leadoff but hanley will do till we get one.

Hanley is pretty much hitting like a number three or four hitter, but from the lead off position.
July 30, 200818 yr You don't need to have speed to bat leadoff you need to get on base its not about the speed its about someone with high OBS
July 30, 200818 yr He is still young and he is still becoming the (BEST PLAYER IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES) according to the MLB fan base. I won't argue though. :thumbup
July 30, 200818 yr 1. Hanley 2. Hermida 3. Cantu 4. Hammer 5. Ross 6. Uggla 7. Jacobs 8. Baker I'm sure putting Ross ahead of Jake would help out with scoring more runs. There's no way Cody Ross should be hitting 7th.

He should go down in the order, but we don't have anyone to replace him with to lead off.
July 30, 200818 yr erick what do you propose we do if we get a good hitting catcher in molina...or someone else? i wouldn't like molina at the 8
July 30, 200818 yr 1. Ross 2. Hermida 3. Ramirez 4. Cantu 5. Willingham 6. Uggla 7. Jacobs 8. Baker Ross has hit out of the leadoff spot this year and he did good

July 30, 200818 yr I'd just lead Hermida off and let him play his own game rather than try to get him to expand his strike zone.

There's no way Cody Ross should be hitting 7th. v.s. RHP Mike Jacobs: .837 OPS Cody Ross: .760 OPS you could argue Jacobs numbers was due to his hot start and codys are lower because of his cold starter, however, Cody's hot streak was mostly in May, since June 1st their total OPS isn't much different (And Jakes is higher in July), and you have to remember that Cody's is powered by his great ability to hammer LHP and Jakes horrible ability at (not) hitting LHP. And for as much as people hate on Jakes walks and OBP against rhp Jacobs: .249/.300 (avg/obp) Coody: .250/.303 not exactly much better, and Jakes ofcoarse got the higher SLG I'm as much of a proponent of trading Jacobs as you'll find, but the main difference between the two has been on defense, not offense.

You forgot their clutch stats, however. Men On Cody Ross: .306/.339/.583 Mike Jacobs: .283/.341/.651 .RISP Cody Ross: .300/.347/.567 Mike Jacobs: .241/.324/.598 RISP & 2 outs Cody Ross: .280/.419/.440 Mike Jacobs: .229/.315/.667 Late & Close Cody Ross: .379/.397/.741 Mike Jacobs: .146/.222/.268 I would just like to see Cody up there in more RBI situations. He's a more selective hitter, and works the pitcher really well (compared to Jacobs, at least). Those Late & Close #'s (when the games are on the line, there) really tell me Cody should at least get moved up to 6th in the order. JMO
July 30, 200818 yr You know what Hanleys problem is when there is RISP the problem is like was it 1 day ago with the bases loaded the only thing he had in mind was to hit a Grand Slam beacuse he dosent have one yet.thats his problem right know he needs to focuse more to hit singles or doubles and not only HOMER HOMER HOMER every single time if he does that he will be fine.

I agree and its a general problem that we've had with the bats. As Tommy and Rich usually say "it's about the little things" with bases loaded, any hitter would want to get a GS, but it's not helping the team if the ball goes no where or, the thing that pisses me off the most, not swinging at the third strike.
July 31, 200818 yr Hanley is the best all around player in the game, but everybody has bad stretches. He's not really a guy you should worry about too much.
July 31, 200818 yr what are you talking about he is having a bad stretch, he has struggled all year w/ risp. he is not clutch at all. he can only bring in runs with an occasional homerun. but other than that he cant do crap. i think he puts too much pressure on himself cause after he signed that contract his batting average starting going down

As for his RISP, that could be part bad luck, as well as part he doesn't bat a lot with RISP because he hits leadoff. I still don't think it's a big concern unless it becomes glaring down the stretch in August and September, I don't see Hanley as some sort of choker.
July 31, 200818 yr actually he has had more Ab w/ risp than uggla w/ 82 and he only has 16 hits all year. He also only has 5 homeruns w/ risp. he needs to step up and be more clutch. we are paying so he can perform during clutch situations. he is the player we should be depending on when the game is on the line. 15 of his 24 homeruns have been solo homeruns. this tells me that he feels less pressure when no one is on base and therefore has more ease in getting homeruns
