July 30, 200817 yr The Marlins could be closer to a deal to acquire left-handed reliever Arthur Rhodes from the Seattle Mariners, who are looking only for a midlevel minor-league prospect in return. Rhodes, 37, is 2-0 with a 3.83 ERA in 35 relief appearances this season. http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/baseball...ory/622735.html I personally would love us to get back Arthur Rhodes, he is cheap, wouldn't cost us a high level prospect, a veteran and he gets lefties out.
July 30, 200817 yr In terms of expected cost and ability he's the best option out there. I don't expect the Marlins to make any monster deals. I think they'll bring in Rhodes and a cheap catcher and that will be it.
July 30, 200817 yr Yeah Rhodes would be a great addition to this ballclub a veteran who can teach our young guys 1 thing or another.
July 30, 200817 yr I'd like ibanez and Rhodes better but I'll take the latter and say thank you very much.
July 30, 200817 yr Having Rhodes and Pinto from the left side of the bullpen would be a nice pair and it wouldn't cost to much......do it already.
July 30, 200817 yr Rhodes line in July... 10 appearances, total 6.2 innings, 3 hits, zero runs, zero earned runs, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts. I think that says it all.
July 30, 200817 yr Being from the Seattle area and after seeing Rhodes pitch live he would be a nice pick up and the Mariners don't look like they are asking for much back. It is a dumping time for them, adding another arm to the pen certainly wouldn't hurt it would just give us another option. Hope we get the deal done.
July 30, 200817 yr hopefully he doesnt turn out to be like ron villone, that guy really sucked for us
July 30, 200817 yr Rhodes has played on 5 different teams and is a south paw. We may just see how valuable Pinto was if we do in fact get Rhodes.
July 30, 200817 yr Rhodes has played on 5 different teams and is a south paw. We may just see how valuable Pinto was if we do in fact get Rhodes. Yeah thats true i think that Rhodes is a uppgrade from pinto or am i wrong?
July 30, 200817 yr A guy like Rhodes would have been great to have yesterday...when Delgado hit the two run jack. I think they specifically want Rhodes to face the Utley's, Howard's, Delgado's of our division
July 30, 200817 yr Rhodes has played on 5 different teams and is a south paw. We may just see how valuable Pinto was if we do in fact get Rhodes. With all of the demotions-promotions of relievers this season, I really doubt the Marlins give up one the relievers that has stuck around the whole season - and the only lefty at that. Not to mention that he is making only a little more than league minimum and won't be heading into his arby years until after the 2009 season.

Yeah thats true i think that Rhodes is a uppgrade from pinto or am i wrong? Meh, they both have their moments. (Good and Bad) I would say Rhodes is slightly better though. For the Seattle Mariners its not really about who has been around all year, although you do make a good point. The Seattle Mariners of 2008 have been the most underachieving team I have seen in a long while, with expectations and such. They look like they are just trying to pump up their farm teams by getting rid of the little quality talent that they have left. (IMO) They had been building for the future for around 5 years and were expecting this year to be the "one." As it goes... they do not have as good of a GM as the Marlins thus the rebuilding process X2. (IMO) Poor Ichiro
July 30, 200817 yr Rhodes line in July... 10 appearances, total 6.2 innings, 3 hits, zero runs, zero earned runs, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts. I think that says it all. Shame on me. I didn't look at his June numbers... 9 appearances, 5 innings total, three hits, zero runs, zero earned runs, zero walks, 6 strikeouts ERA for June 0.00 So June and July combined look like this... 19 appearances, 11.2 innings, 6 hits, zero runs, zero earned runs, 2 walks, 15 strikeouts. Combined June/July ERA 0.00

July 30, 200817 yr Yeah I was questionable about Rhodes at first but this would be good for us, expecially since it'd only cost a C to C+ spec
July 30, 200817 yr Well, we definitely need another lefty. I'm worried about Pinto, holding up the whole year. Fredi uses him just about every night. Rhodes has been very good against lefties this year, and in his career, as well.
July 30, 200817 yr wow, did anyone else think that said closer, as in saves or was that just me. i literally screamed thinking they traded kevin gregg
July 30, 200817 yr i hope it is marceaux. but i dont think it is. he is still considered a pretty good prospect and i dont see them giving up on a first round pick without an opportunity to see him up here first.
July 30, 200817 yr Honestly, it's an upgrade in my mind over Pinto. He is a veteran and would come cheap. What's not to like? Let it happen.
