August 6, 200818 yr I was curious as I started to remember all the talk at the beginning of the year where everyone claimed we were just feasting on the bottom dwellers (Pitt, Was, etc). So, being so far in to the season, what is the Marlins record against teams at .500 or better and their record against teams under .500?? I don't know where to find it but I know some of you will (cough...Rab...cough). Thanks in advance... Jason

First as of today, how have the Marlins fared against teams with .500+ records. and secondly, how did they fare against teams that were .500+ when they played them. The latter to me would be more important.
August 6, 200818 yr Author Ok...I'll start searching (but that defeated the point of me asking) To me, I think its more important to see how they fared against other teams record as of today. That takes in to account every game played by every team. (I doubt that it would be that different anyhow)
August 6, 200818 yr What is going on with this board? There is alot of wannabe elitist fan garbage going on. The guy had a question and needed some help with it. Some of you on here have gotten extremely critical of people posting on here. Why dont you help him if you know the answer instead of telling him to look it up himself? It is an interesting topic and I would like to know the answer as well and wouldnt have the first inclination as to where to look. Just an observation but some of you people on here have progressively become more and more arrogant as your post number has increased. We are all fans and, contrary to popular belief, post number doesnt mean anything. I can post poop and pee jokes in the outfield thread and get 10000 posts. (not implying that you, marlins2003, posted poop and pee jokes to get to 10000+ posts. normally i agree with you on your comments. This time it was your post that sent me over the edge)
August 6, 200818 yr When Playing a team with a winning record we are 22-19,,,When playing a team with a winning record the 2nd half we are 7-4,,,After a win,,,27-31,,,I think it's time to change that stat soon,,,but when we play on Wednesday we are 11-6 while the Phillies are 7-10,,,taking the odds here we should win tonight. http://www.playersonly.com/statfeed/statfe...it=1&back=1
August 6, 200818 yr Marlins Record Against Teams Above .500 = (26-22) {Mets, Brewers, Dodgers, Dbacks, Phils, Rays, and Cubs} Marlins Record Against Teams Below .500 = (34-31) {Pirates, Nationals, Astros, Braves, Padres, Reds, Royals, Giants, Mariners, A's, and Rockies}

We're 10-2 against the Nats. They skew the number dramatically. We need to start uping our game against sub500 teams fast. No more of this bulls***.
August 6, 200818 yr the sub 500 teams are tough, we should be better. i wonder about those teams what there record was at the time?

August 6, 200818 yr I don't mind explaining why I posted what I did and if you've read other stuff I've posted I usually go out of my way to tell people where to find things and what I think are good sources. For example if you're thinking about a trade for so and so and you want to know how much time and money is left on his contract, or you're looking for a good free agent in 2009 list, I would send them to Cot's I thought in this case he should at least make an attempt himself (and hopefully others would too) because knowledge is power and posts significantly improve when people take five minutes and do a little research on their own. I wasn't being rude, I was encouraging him to see what he could find on his own. If he came back and said "damn I can't figure out where to find this" or "I'm lost in all these numbers" I would have been more than happy to help a fellow poster out.
August 6, 200818 yr Author I'm sure its easy to find for those who know where to look. I didn't think it was too big an issue to simply ask the general forums. Rather than instructing me to "look it up yourself", you are more than welcome (or rather encouraged) to not respond at all. (or at least tell me where to look). Though your second half of your post was intriguing in that there is a difference between their record now, compared to their record at gametime. As I said, I prefer their record now. A good example (though a different sport) would be last year when Tennessee beat South Carolina when they were ranked 6th in the nation. At the time, it was a huge victory over a great team. I believe SC ended up finishing .500 and not invited to a bowl. Though baseball is different b/c of the amount of games played, I still prefer to take the hot start / cold start teams out of it. But like I said, the difference between the two shouldnt be that great.

When dealing with young posters, as is mostly the case around here, I whole heartedly agree with you. It's similsr to tell them to go look a word up to learn the spelling instead of just telling them how to spell it. They learn something. But if it were me asking the question?? Heck, I'm just lazy. LOL
August 7, 200818 yr So the old gripe was that the Marlins aren't beating good teams, and now the gripe is that they aren't beating bad teams enough.
August 8, 200818 yr So the old gripe was that the Marlins aren't beating good teams, and now the gripe is that they aren't beating bad teams enough. Actually, I have always thought the Marlins played down to their competition. But the way this season has unfolded so far I have no gripes at all. It's been an amazing year that looks like may beat my pre Spring Training prediction of 81 wins. As I constantly say to any Mets fans, "My team is surpassing my expectations. Don't you wish you could say the same thing??" Usually shuts them right up.

August 8, 200818 yr For the record, a couple of those teams were over .500 when we faced them. The A's were, the Braves were for 2 series. I think that's it.

LOL Most of these young posters are too lazy to even punctuate their sentences. It's not that they punctuate incorrectly, but rather not at all. I seriously doubt they are going to look anything up. That's what frustrates me the most around here. Trying to read a paragraph that isn't punctuated at all. To be clear, that's not the situation here as far as I can tell. I just posted it now because BroncoBob brought up the whole young poster issue.
