More Lineup ideas

Featured Replies

Just looking at players' numbers for August, and making a lineup based on who has had the best OBP this month, the lineup would look like this:

Hanley

Baker

Cody

Uggla

***Helms? (if he plays)

Gonzalez/Willingham (I'd consider start Gonzalez a bit more)

Hermida

Cantu

Jacobs (out if Helms is in)

The question then though is if you prefer to push Cantu and Jacobs up in the order, as they are still SLG better than the middle of that order in August.

Still, I think it would be nice to see them at least try this lineup or something like it. Thoughts?

If you listen to 'Topes games you hear that McPherson, while playing as hard as he can, has run out of gas after a long hot season and a year and half out of baseball.

You might not even see him in Sept except as a reward for what he did this season.

I think that is best too. I also think they shouldn't play the hell out of Maybin either.

How about

1. Coghlan

2. Hermida

3. Hanley

4. Cantu

5. Raynor

6. Maybin

7. Logan

8. Molina (Uggla traded to the Giants for Molina, Tim Alderson and cash)

1. JJ

2. Nolasco

3. Volstad

4. Anibal

5. Alderson

Olsen traded to the Rangers for Engel Beltre.

This is the 2009 thread, right?

Maybin is getting better with every game (a little hyperbole, every player has off games) and he's just about a lock on starting in centerfield next season. He's so ready right now if it weren't for the AA playoffs they might have called him up already. I might be wrong but my sense is the FO wants to see this group of guys win a championship together over the next few weeks. He struck out twice in the last five games (but to be fair he struck six times in the five games before) his OBP keeps improving, he's hitting everything thrown at him now, I really think CF is the least of our problems moving forward.

wow cantu in the bottom

Heres mine

Hanley

Baker

Cantu

Cody( any 1 remeber last time he bated 4th he was a besat)

Willingham

Uggla

Jacobs

Hermida

Pitcher

any lineup needs to have cody 1st, hanley 3rd, and cantu 4th. fill in the pieces from there

Cody and his .317 OBP needs to bat down in the order unless he's riding the pine which he should be.

haha u think logan morrison is gonna start next year!! dude if u rush ur prospects into the bigs it sometimes makes them worse, i would say in 2010 season we might see him

I think going into spring training 09 it will be a battle between Gaby and Logan for 1B and I think Logan wins. I also think "prospects being ruined due to being rushed" is overrated to the point of being complete myth.

I'll have to disagree with that

Very often you see guys called up too early and their strike zone discapline never is able to develop

You do, you can't just ignore slg togeather. OPS would be better than using only OBP.

a very basic guide would be

1) high OBP, low slg

2) high obp, low slg

3-8) OPS order, really.

Not sure if you are replying to me, but if you are -

1. what makes you think that calling a player up too early messes with their strike/zone discipline? Any examples? Its my opinion that if you don't have it, you don't have it.

2. Logan Morrison doesn't have a problem with strike zone judgment.

Shouldn't Morrison get...oh, I don't know...A YEAR in AA ball first? This guy is just turning 21. Most phenoms don't even reach the bigs, at that age...especially when they're still in A ball.

Not necessarily. Jupiter is an extreme pitcher's friendly park, we will have an open competition at 1B going into spring training 09 IMO, and we can't just hand that job to Gaby. If Logan impresses the way I think he will, why does he have to have a full year in AA?

We have been aggressive in the past with our prospects, why not with an elite level hitter like Morrison?

It's just so rare to do such a thing. And we're aggressive with prospects...but never do I recall them being called up from A ball...not even Cabrera. It's just rare to see that, if it ever happens, period.

As far as Gaby next year...there's free agent signings (ala Cantu), there's Dallas McPherson who could compete for a spot in Spring Training...there are options.

Btw...to however put Alderson in the starting staff next year...why him and not the guy we got for Miguel Cabrera? Andrew Miller?

1. Nolasco

2. JJ

3. Volstad

4. Anibal

5. Miller

(if you have Olsen as the odd man out...I, personally, do as well)
