September 22, 200817 yr C - Baker 1B - Cantu / G. Sanchez 2B - Uggla SS - Ramirez 3B - Cantu/ McPherson LF - Raynor/De Aza/ almost any OF not on the active roster this year. Maybe someone we get back for Jacobs & co. CF - Maybin (definite starter I think, but spot in order may depend on ST) RF - Ross Bench Everything - Amezaga OF - Hermida (if they keep him) C - Lo Duca/Treanor/Rabelo Rotation - Nolasco, JJ, A Miller, some combination of Sanchez, Volstad, Mitre and MAYBE Olsen if he can't be replaced by another LHP. SU - Ryan Tucker / Joe Nelson CP - Lindstrom Anyway, I expect that Jacobs & Hammer will be gone, I hope Hermida as well. Hopefully in return for them we can get a good corner OF bat to put into LF and either some more bullpen (can't ever have too much) or a decent Lefty SP. I don't expect any big moves for a new catcher since anyone they acquire will just be a backup for Baker, and he will have enough starts to make his backup less important. I'm hoping they can hang on to Cantu which will give them flexibility with using McPherson and Gaby Sanchez at the corners until the team is comfortable and can rely on them. I don't imagine Coghlan will be up unless they decide to get creative in trying either him, Uggla, or Hanley at 3B. I don't buy into the belief that Uggla will be traded as Coghlan hasn't been called up to get MLB playing time. Whereas I think the team clearly seems to be looking at having G Sanchez and McPherson starting next year. If the team intended to trade Uggla, you would think Coghlan would at least be on the bench right now to get some ABs at this level. I really hope Arthur Rhodes sticks around too, but I'm not sure that hope is realistic.
September 22, 200817 yr who is a expirinced catcher (4+ years in the League) Who has low salery and can actually bat 250 that can be obtainable Rod Barajas? yea but i think hes too expensive and hes Texas' starting Catcher unless they give up on him and start Rodriguez or Saltalamacchia(Who is starting at 1b for them now)
September 22, 200817 yr I still think we can lure away at least one of those young Texas catchers within a Jacobs trade (they wouldn't need Uggla because of Kinsler) I've said this before, but the Cardinals need a 2B, and have 2 good catchers (Molina/prospect Bryan Anderson) who can't be swapped around at C/1B/DH like the Rangers can with theirs. I definitely think Uggla is gone, and St. Louis is where he ends up. I also think Olsen, Jacobs and Hammer are gone, probably for pitching prospects.

September 22, 200817 yr I still think we can lure away at least one of those young Texas catchers within a Jacobs trade (they wouldn't need Uggla because of Kinsler) Absolutely not. Why would they do that with Blalock, Davis, and all of their catchers can play 1B, and oh, they drafted Smoak in the first round. They will want pitching pitching pitching for Laird, and I'm guessing Max is the one they'll trade.
September 22, 200817 yr Position Players C-Baker (time to say he's for real...the sample size is becoming worthy of doing so; hopefully, this continues going into next year). 1B-Gaby Sanchez 2B-Chris Coghlan 3B-Jorge Cantu SS-Erick Aybar LF-Hanley Ramirez CF-Cameron Maybin RF-Jeremy Hermida / Rocco Baldelli Bench OF-John Raynor IF/OF-Alfredo Amezaga C-Mike Redmond PH/CIF-Dallas McPherson Starting Pitching 1. Molina has a longterm contract, and St. Louis loves him. 4 years/$15.5M (2008-11), plus 2012 club option re-signed 1/20/08 (avoided arbitration, $2.75M-$1.85M) $0.25M signing bonus 08:$1.75M, 09:$3.25M, 10:$4.25M, 11:$5.25M, 12:$7M club option ($0.75M buyout) Yea, not happening for straight up salary reasons, and really no thanks. Bryan Anderson is a lefty. I'll take my chances with Shake and Bake. Anderson is redundant. We need a guy like Max Ramirez. Right handed, has a good defensive reputation, and hits lefties harder than righties. That would be a perfect combo. And if Uggla goes to St. Louis, I better see Colby Rasmus as the "prospect." Because we really don't need anything else from their team. Anderson is cool, but meh. I like their young relievers, but we have plenty in that department compared to trading away a huge 2B. We need star power if we trade a guy coming off a top 3 or 4 season in baseball from 2B. Rasmus is all they have in their depleted farm system. And it's not like his .742 OPS in the PCL is turning heads. Ideally, you trade Olsen for a Max Ramirez package (I feel they keep Salty and Teagarden for themselves) and then are set at catcher for a very long time. A trade like that, makes sense both ways. However it would be dumb to point out everyone in baseball doesn't notice the Rangers situation of 4 young MLB catchers. The Rangers will easily be able to get great offers for all of them, and the Marlins may have to make a very competitive offer to obtain one of their catchers. Still, I'd do it for any of the three young ones.

Walden is an elite prospect with very good stuff, who has performed at every level thus far in the minors. He'd be a top pitching prospect in the organization. You never have enough pitching.
September 22, 200817 yr Moving Hanley from SS is idiotic. for now i'd keep hanley at SS but he might be the next a-rod and why not move him to 3rd, move cantu to 1st, and then add a good defensive SS. adding furcal to play SS would be awesome but our cheap ass organization won't do that 1B - Cantu 2B - Uggla 3B - Hanley SS - Furcal that would equal the best infield in baseball

Man thats good research I apploud you for going the Extra Mile :arms :Notmorthy I would like to Have Max Ramirez and Baker Combo aswell but baker hits lefties well to so Ramirez would probably get only 20 % of the Playing time or better if he Gives us good results. Also this trade seems likely since Texas does Need Pitching especially in there Roation and Olsen could be a 1-2 Starter over there. With thoose two we'd be set for anothe 2-3 years in the catchers postion until we get Skippworth ready and up in the Majors and hopefully he lives up to his potential and has a great Career.

There is no lock he is around. And I'm pretty confident G. Sanchez and McPherson are predominantly playing 1B next year anyways. Regardless, Hanley is the most productive SS in baseball despite his defense (which is getting better, and was notably better in the second half). The Marlins lose productivity placing him anywhere else on the field, because whoever they replace him with at SS, will probably not out hit a "corner" player in our current positional alignment. He stays at SS until he becomes Soriano bad, and he is a long way from it. And A-Rod should have never moved to 3B. That is only because the Yankees don't have balls to tell Captain Jeter he sucks at defense and he needs to move to 2B. A-Rod is a vastly superior SS to Jeter. Or at least was at the time the Yankees brought him in.
September 22, 200817 yr Moving Hanley from SS is idiotic. Expecting that Jeffrey Loria is going to spend on every arbritation player on this team is idiotic. Dan Uggla is not going to stay here long-term, regardless. Expecting that Hanley will finish his career as a SS is idiotic. This won't happen next year...but I'm not basing this on what the organization is going to do. I'm basing this on an idea I had a couple days ago. You trade Uggla for a shortstop who can provide great defense...move one of your best prospects (Coghlan) to starting 2B (which will eventually happen anyways, imo)...and move Hanley out of SS to the outfield (which will eventually happen anyways, imo). Hanley is an average, at best, defensive SS and he's only going to get bigger, as he matures. He's not going to be a SS, much longer. Maybe another year or two.

Baker has a .632 OPS against lefties. It's a small sample size, but it will hold up based on his minor league career. If the Marlins acquire a Max Ramirez style player, it would be a lot more than 20%. He'd get all lefties, and probably a third of righties. That would be 90-100 starts for Baker, 60-70 for Max. That sounds about right on paper going into a year, but of course performance can change things. I really don't want to speculate though. I want to see them grab another young catcher, and not do something stupid like resign Lo Duca. Skipworth will need 4 seasons in the minors. He's not on the radar yet.
September 22, 200817 yr I wonder if a Scott Olsen+John Raynor trade would work for Edwin Encarnacion, a personal favorite of mine that would fit in perfectly at third with this team. He's been rumored to be on the block and they could use both of those players. Give me a lineup of: 1. Maybin CF 2. Hermida RF 3. Hanley SS 4. Cantu 1B 5. Uggla 2B 6. Baker C 7. Encarnacion 3B 8. Ross LF 1. Josh Johnson 2. Volstad 3. Nolasco 4. Andrew Miller 5. Anibal Sanchez The bullpen will be fine, we have so many power arms to choose from; I really hope we keep Rhodes though.

I didn't say I expected ownership to spend money on arbitration for every player eligible. I didn't say I expected Dan Uggla to stay here longterm. I didn't say I expected Hanley will finish his career at SS. Now that we have THAT out of the way before you put more things into my mouth, Hanley is the most productive bat in baseball. He is blowing all other SS out of the water. He leads baseball in VORP the last two seasons. When you have a player capable of playing a position, even with poor defense, but are getting so much production offensively that despite his shortcomings he is still out producing the entire class of players at his position, you leave him there and take the good and worry about the bad later. He literally hits so much, it doesn't matter he currently rates below average defensively (and he is getting better where I would expect him to be able to stay at SS for well more than a year or two). Moving him to say 3B, or LF, ruins his offensive advantage over other players at his position, making him less valuable as a player. He would not lead baseball in VORP at 3B. Remember, this is about getting the most PRODUCTION out of every spot in the lineup regardless of what type that production is. Hanley happens to hit the crap out of the baseball. You take that, play the hand that is dealt to you, and build around it. And this is a really good hand to play. Hanley is pocket aces. The Marlins can easily find a "corner" player for 3B or LF that can hit the ball and play adequate defense (see our current players, Ross (got him off waivers), Cantu (500k FA), and even further McPherson (minor league free agent)), versus moving Hanley and then trying to find an average/above average player at a much harder position to fill, being SS. Getting a younger SS in trade is even dumber, because that would then forever remove Hanley from SS, which is a terrible idea. He plays there until he shows he can't. Like I said, you leave him there until he is Soriano bad. And he is nowhere near that. As for Dan, you keep him unless overwhelmed with a trade package. I have no problems with a Coghlan, Amezaga, and Andino 2B platoon next year with hopes of Coghlan cementing it longterm, but Dan is still a top 10 2B in baseball in a worst case scenario, and that is pretty damn hard to replace. His arbitration isn't going to be insulting next year, $4.25-4.5ish. We don't have to just ditch him for salary reasons, like we can very easily do with Gregg, Olsen, Jacobs, Willingham, etc, because they aren't as good of players.

September 22, 200817 yr Yeah EE isn't impressive. Horrible defensively and doesn't put up impressive offensive numbers considering the park he's in. Also, ignoring everything else, why would the Angels trade for Uggla when they have Howie Kendrick?

I think you're a little obsessed with position by position production. So what if Hanley is the best offensive SS in baseball? Stick him in LF...and he'd STILL be one of the best offensive LF'ers in baseball. And considering SS isn't exactly and offensive position...Aybar wouldn't be terrible, by your standards. As a matter of fact, Aybar hit over .300 basically at every level, at the minor league level. He won't provide power...but he provides everything else, practically.

Bad defensively? I don't know about that, I think the guy is one of the best defensive third baseman in baseball; his range is unbelievable. Maybe his errors say otherwise, but every time I've seen him play he is extremely impressive at the hot corner.
