Face facts guys. Whoever is up for arbitration is gone!!! We are going back to 65 wins again. The dismantling will continue. In a few years we will have a beautiful, brand new, empty retractable roof stadium with a losing franchise playing in it that is hellbent on being a AAAA minor league team for everybody else in baseball. After 15 years, I've given up on hoping. No owner we have will ever care about winning. All this dismantling crap has finally got to me. I'm now a permanent pessimist!

Wow, you are so wrong its not even funny. Next year, we will most likely win the division, because i dont see the mets or phillies being better than us. In 2011, i see a stadium with 35,000 fans cheering Lets go Marlins. I also see a dynasty in the florida marlins that will win many more world series after the new park opens.

I'm just going to assume that you jest.

Di i not go over this hanley at SS thing already and the guys before him who turned out to be GG after a having some rough years early. I dont understand people want to move hanley to the OF or 3rd yet they want coghlan playing 2nd with 22 errors.

I mean, which of the guys you mentioned...oh...A-Rod? Well, I mean, he's more a 3b now anywa....you say Ozzie "Greatest SS Ever" Smith's first 3 years at SS were all 20+ error years, amongst the worst in baseball? Well, bah you and your non-knee-jerkiness!

UM wow

Go to Lous thread and honestly say that all the players are gone.

Were not gonna resign everyone if that is what you mean, of course we wont were gonna trade jake hammer olsen and most likely Uggla which saves us 10+ Mil and all the Rookies like Maybin Coghlan Gaby will be on rookie contact of 400 -800k.

Why would we have Another Firesale or whatever you want to call it if we dont have to?

Espicially since its out destiny yo win thE WS next season

MP, every time i read one of ur posts i feel i get dumber. But I don't blame the guy for being pessimistic, this team done so much to drive the fans away, that it will take a long time to get those fans back. I believe they will keep some of these guys because they are not asking for a huge salary, a MANAGABLE team is in the works, not the one in 2005 that was overpayed. A $30 million payroll is what we are looking at, and that is only $10 million more than this year. I see us trying to win next year, not as much as the mets and yanks will spend to try and "win" as well, but our ownership will try and win at a reasonable price, while the mets will spend every penny

Actually, Steinbrenner just said that things would change, and most likely things will change with the Mets too. At least, the Yankees are probably going to turn back to their farm system and try to rebuild, which won them their late 90's WS titles.

I fully agree with u about the Yankees, they have already started, with new young additions. The mets i have to dissagree. They have prided themselves since 2006 on trying to build a team based on high priced, over the hill players, and i do not see things changing there

"Facts," huh? The only "fact" on the players on this team is the fact that Hanley Ramirez signed a 6 year deal. The only reason why no one else has signed long-term is b/c no one else on this team is worthy of a long-term contract just yet...on a small-market team that actually has to be wise with its money.

I'd be willing to bet anything that we get a good half of our arbritration players back...and the team far exceeds the 65 wins you mentioned. Heck...the team won more than 65 last year with guys like Daniel Barone and Chris Seddon, filling in, in the 2nd half. 65? Ha Ha!

Although in hindsight, I do think we could have done better on Hanley's contract in order to get Maybin locked up.

My problem is that your idea of "doing better" is having Hanley for a year less.

Unrealistic.

I personally wouldn't sign Maybin to a longterm contract right this second anyway

not that I don't think he will be good but he's no where as safe of a guy as, say, evan longoria.

Honestly, Jakkkobs is gone.

He's gone for one of three things. Picks and a low prospect. A prospect in LF who's ready to come in and play (not a ton of upside but a PLUS defender). A CL prospect and a minor leaguer, or a Catcher from TEX (the weakest of the three).

If we do the deal with TEX, were adding to the package.

Anibal Sanchez is going to be in the bullpen as a closer. Sorry to say it, but I would like to see him in a John Smoltz situation, working himself back slowly with 1 or 2 inning saves. Worse case, I hope he becomes a Mariano Rivera (A Poor SP who becomes a Greatest of all time CL).

Olsen is going to stay, because Sanchez is up in the air about working his way back, and I hope #34 remains here to prove he's a solid member of the ball club.

Gregg, Hendrickson, and the rest of the Woe Is Me Club can go f*** themselves.

Rhodes will be back, because he "Likes whats going on here" although he means the nightlife and the minimal work he gets.

Gonzo will retire, sell more wine and start work in the D-Backs Front Office as a "Special Assistant" becoming their own Yogi Berra and Reggie Jackson.

Honestly, Jakkkobs is gone.

Rabb I was just thinking the same thing!

It's crazy how people expect basically all the Arbitration guys to be gone, and I'm not just talking about the "Face the facts" post either.

I do expect things to change in the corners. The team has already been willing to trade Hermida, and if they keep Cody to play RF with Maybin in CF, its just a question of packaging him with the right stuff for the right price. Hammer is good, but not a must have.

If the team can keep Cantu, I believe that Jacobs will be shipped out, and the corner IF spots will be sorted out between Cantu, McPherson, and Sanchez.

If Coghlan was ready (he's not) then he would have had the call up. He would be adding another 20+ error defender to an already-bad IF while subtracting our best IF defender among the starting 4. Nevermind Uggla's offensive contribution.

Honestly, Jakkkobs is gone.

It was great how you actually quoted guys, as if they actually said it themselves. Brilliant.

Just how dominant is this FO? They can trade for draft picks, something no other FO can.

Gatekeeper, you must be a mets fan because you are so wrong. The marlins will give away some players, but most will stay. This is a new organization now. We finally are going to have a new stadium, so more people will want to come. Also, they now have more stability because Loria now knows that the Marlins actually have a FUTURE. Now he can finally make investments and spend some more money, like he did with Hanley Ramirez. Uggla will stay, Cantu will stay, Nolasco will stay, all of the players that we need will stay, because we finally can spend some more money because the new stadium promises a future for Marlins baseball in South Florida. So with that said, here are my Marlins' 25 players for 2009:

Starting Pitching:

Nolasco

JJ

Volstad

Anibal

Miller

Bullpen:

Closer:Tucker

SU:Lidstrom, Nelson

MR:Pinto, 2 others

Lefty:Rhodes (maybe, i dunno)

Starting Lineup: Hanley, Maybin, Cantu, Sanchez, Uggla, Hermida, Cody, Baker

Bench: Lo duca, hoover, or other, amezaga, andino, mcpherson, raynor (rotate with cody)

I really think that its in the best interests of the franchise to make sure that Andrew Miller earns his spot in the rotation this year. He was blessed with a chance this year and he made practically no progress (if he did it was from horrible to merely bad). I think longterm he will be with those guys, but maybe not out of the gate next year. It would be quite silly to repeat the same mistake we made this year.

I really think Anibal is the odd man out, and working his way back to the Rotation through the Bullpen is the best option for him. Sorry if i Sound like an idiot, but Smoltz did it, and came back great for a year or so.

Wood went to Closer this year for CHI and he's been good there.

We can use him more in the closers role then in the rotation.

Jakkkobs, IDK- Speculation.

And I believe Rhodes said he lieks whats going on here during an interview i saw, but usually when they refer to miami they mean the nightlife, not the team their on.

Olsen should come back, and I hope so. A LHP who's young and only 2.5 mil from what I've heard is worth it. Even if you wind up trading him at the break for prospects/picks.

The more i think about it the more i think its not so concreate that we trade olsen. What if Miller struggles or anibal struggles terribly. Olsen is a very durable lefty who is a great 4th starter most teams would love to have him.
