Penny back in Teal?

Featured Replies

I'm not saying that we do go after him but the latest on Penny:

The Dodgers declined the $9.25 million option for 2009 on pitcher Brad Penny and paid him a $2 million buyout, allowing the 30-year-old right-hander to become a free agent. After winning 16 games in both 2006 and 2007, Penny went 6-9 with a 6.27 ERA in 2008, spending three stints on the disabled list with shoulder tendinitis and he missed the postseason. With Penny gone and Derek Lowe a free agent, the veteran of the current starting rotation is Japanese import Hiroki Kuroda, technically a Major League rookie this year, followed by 24-year-old Chad Billingsley and 20-year-old rookie Clayton Kershaw. No other current Dodger made more than seven starts in 2008.

Sampson was on LeBetard's show today and said that in their meetings they were discussing Penny.

They shouldn't be entertaining things like this.

It should be more than entertained if the price is right. While I would expect someone else to bid higher, I would say that if Penny is willing and afordable that we would be stupid not to bring him in.

The team could hold raffles to get to see who's in charge of the radar gun when Penny pitches.

The Marlins would have to be out of their minds to commit the kind of money he would be asking even with his bum shoulder although they might get the fast food industry in South Florida to kick in a few mil. It would probably turn out to be a very good investment for them.

Ouch!

So basically, you would argue all the McDonald's in the Bronx should give a subsidy to the Yankees to sign CC? CC is a dollarmillionaire for sure.

Penny's love of fast food used to be legendary here and (I think it's) Broken Arrow OK, hence the comment. Rather than McDonalds (and I bet I'm the only person here who knew the McDonald bros.) I'd guess (and of course this is all silliness) our hometown Burger King Corp. would jump at the chance to sign Brad Penny as their spokesman for the Super Loaded Steakhouse Burger or maybe pitching (yeah, the pun was intended) a Triple Bacon Cheese Whopper !

Can't you just see Brad and the King together on the same stage... :brigginbounce

well if Samson said this, it must be legit, but why would we sign Penny for a hefty price when our problem is obviously catcher, and the bullpen? Do they trust in his playoff clutch, I mean if we are going for it, and Penny is healthy the pressure from past experiences does seem to indicate that pressure doesn't phase him, but why would we try and sign him if he might be in the 8 million dollar ballpark? We don't EVER sign pitchers long-term!

Man, I hope they see something I don't, 'cause I'm not seeing the need for such an expensive pitcher. I mean, unless he comes cheap. I agree with the catcher and bullpen comment. :)
