President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan this afternoon to apologize for a joke about her having held "s?ances" in the White House, an Obama aide said.

 

“President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference," said transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. "The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation."

 

Obama was asked at his press conference today if he'd spoken to all the "living" presidents.

 

"I have spoken to all of them who are living," he responded. "I didn’t want to get into a Nancy Reagan thing about doing any s?ances."

 

He was apparently confusing stories about Reagan's consulting with an astrologer with those about other First Ladies -- from Mary Todd Lincoln to Hillary Clinton -- who tried to make contact with figures from the past.

No it is a legit story . I cringed when Obama intiallly attempted his poor attempt at humor fortunately he did the right thing and apologized for his mistake. I was very impressed with our media . They have yet again done a fantastic job of asking the important questions of the day hopefully the next series of questions will move away from the "dog" issue and address what is President Obama's favorite food and color .

It is kind of jarring to see a gaff in a major event, because he avoided such for most of the campaign, but it this is a non-issue and he already apologized to Mrs. Reagan, who I am think didn't really mind all that much.

Been a bad week for ole Nancy. She gets slapped around in North Carolina, gets made fun of by the Barack Lobster. Poor ole gal.

Well he's friends with socialists, communists, and dictators. His mentor as a kid was a communist. He ran on a platform of change, and spreading the wealth which is symbolic of a socialist. I agree, what would be so bad if he was actually a Muslim? Minnesota elected a Muslim Congressman, and the world didn't end (as far as I know).

 

It's really sad that we still have a lot of people in this country who unfairly group all Muslims together and assume that they are terrorists. I think part of it is racism against Arabs, honestly.

Granted, I have no problem with what the Barack Lobster said since it gave me a chance to reference Zombie Reagan, but thats just me personally. If I had more scruples about it, I would probably be offended.

 

So I will say it, with all the extra money Obama will make on the side from lobbyists and special interests, will he use that extra income to hunt down his dad? Or will the old guy instinctively show up at a White House tour looking to borrow cash?
