Jayson Stark postulates: Hermida deals

Featured Replies

Edwin Jackson = 25 year old next year with a career 5.15 ERA / 1.63 WHIP...the guy has control problems.

Don't give me the potential bullcrap after all the negative crap that's been written on Hermida on here.

Also...some of you saying "yes,"...if I go back to the Cantu thread and those same of you said "no" to Cantu for Sanchez...you guys seriously shouldn't try analyzing trades anymore.

This makes no sense. At all.

about the same could be said about Andrew Miller

Except Miller has better stuff and is two years younger.

I will say, I am firmly against trading Hermida, but if they idiotically do this, the first person I better hear out of the god dam Devil Ray organization is WADE DAVIS.

Also, it's worth mentioning that Jackson has been playing pro-ball for 7 years, as opposed to Miller's 3.

And Miller gets bashed plenty enough here too. At the very least, Miller has proven that he can get lefties out, on a regular basis.

When the Jorge Cantu for Jonathan Sanchez rumors came up, people were saying "but why? We don't need another pitcher" blah, blah, blah. Now a trade like this comes up...and people seem happy because Hermida's the scapegoat to all our problems.

Hermida's proven to be better than Cantu already, with more potential than Cantu, yet we're getting a middle infielder who would be useless here...and a pitching project. No thanks. If Jonathan Sanchez isn't "needed" neither is Edwin Jackson.

which would make Jackson a more experienced pitcher for us next year and less prone to nerves getting to him.

hmm... from what i learned in school, 7 years is greater than 3. I believe 7 years of experience with MLB coaches is usually better than 3.

No, it just goes to show that he hasn't learned control in 7 years. His only experience is one of putting tons of guys on base.

I just don't like him at all.

Bang your head all you want...fact is, Jorge Cantu's career .777 .OPS for a corner infielder who isn't very good defensively is nothing to brag about.

People should start thinking with their minds, instead of their hearts. The whole "Cantu is extremely clutch" thing is nothing but crap. #'s don't lie.

production on the field doesn't. Do you win games on stats or by your play on the field? Are you going to get the runner home from a stat book? We watched the game, and all year long Cantu proved to be the most clutch player on the team, he lagged late, but he was the most clutch in the most important times. Great that you watched the game stat boy

Yes...it would be a good idea to get him b/c ummm...ehhh...he has 7 years of experience.

Perhaps the fact that Jackson has over double the years of experience as opposed to Miller is actually a good thing...for Miller? Y'know, considering it's taken 4 more years for Jackson and he STILL hasn't gotten "it?"

Experience in baseball = an overrated term used for certain players to show their value to a team, when in fact, it's of very little value...if any at all.

wow... that's all i'm gonna say

so your gonna tell me that being a rookie in the majors is a lot better than being a seasoned vet? Your crazy dude

Thinking with your heart again, eh?

.272/.347/.432 with .RISP. Not really all that special.

How do you determine how good a player is? By just observing? :lol

I'm sure people would like to hear the actual facts over your opinion, any day of the week.

This is the biggest problem with "anti-stat" people. There is just a lack of understanding going on. No one says stats win games. That would be retarded. But stats do tell us what helps win games, and who did what helped win games.

And yes, it is easy to remember a couple times when Cantu came up in the clutch, but Uggla was more clutch than he was.

Uggla was better with RISP and was better when Late and Close (when Cantu wasn't very good, to be honest).

For the record, Cantu hit .255/.298/.425 when Late and Close, which is what most people think of when they say "clutch". That puts him behind a few guys on the team, including Jeremy Hermida (.259/.326/.494).

I remember watching the games, and many people on this site agree that by watching the games, Cantu was clearly the most clutch player on the team. Doesn't matter what stats say just to be quite blank, i want the player who i will trust to lead my team to the playoffs, and I feel Cantu is more important to this team easily. Hermida has yet to prove himself, and your basing Hermida's future production in the MLB based off of one half of the 2007 season and his high school and minors stats. Hermida has proved nothing in the majors, and people who think he really commands a huge return are high off their ass

another example of stats misleading you.

Cantu was still much more valuable to the team.

How is that misleading? It's pretty clear cut.

Stats are just a record of what happened, and that's what happened. I'm sorry it doesn't match your personal feelings.

You say a stat book can't bring in the runner from third and you are right. But you should also know that your gut can't hit a sac fly and your eyes can't move a runner over.

oh yeah, can you PLEASE learn to quote correctly?

thank you, so annoying.

I still think Cantu had a better season than Hermida. Everyone says the stats, but overall Cantu was the better player. Hermida is a good young player, but I do not think he showed he was better than Cantu last year.

The numbers do not always add up to the effect they have. Just here how many ore times did Cantu get player of the week over Hermida. Everyone during the season trusted Cantu a lot more than Hermida.

I think people are overvaluing Hermida too, ever since the Manny talk he has been almost untouchable. He is a decent outfielder but he isn't a stud.

I thought I had slept off my hangover, but after reading some of these "gems," my head is bumping once again.

And if we trade Hermida for the Bartlett Puu-puu platter, I might have an eternal hangover.

It is about Sonnanstine, not about Bartlett...

13-9 with a 4+ERA 1.2whip and 6K/9 in the AL east for a 25 year old only in his second year isn't bad. He also went 5-0 vs the AL East. We all know thats the hardest lineups to pitch against.

I do not think it is ideal, but adding a pitcher like Sonnanstine is better than adding a pitcher like Sanchez.
