December 8, 200817 yr People sometimes assume the Marlins will trade just about anybody on the roster who's arbitration-eligible. So why not a guy like Hermida, who has tantalized them with his talent, yet frustrated them with his unfulfilled potential? Well, there's plenty of interest (in both Hermida and the even-less-available Dan Uggla), according to clubs that have spoken to the Fish. The Marlins have been pushing Jorge Cantu over Hermida, at least so far. But Hermida fits exactly what teams like the Cubs, Phillies and Rays are looking for to plug into their outfield holes. And the Marlins have young studs like Cameron Maybin, Logan Morrison and Michael Stanton on their outfield horizon. So it will be interesting to see whether they can build an Hermida deal around Jason Bartlett and a young starter (Edwin Jackson or Andy Sonnanstine) with Tampa Bay, or around infield prospect Jason Donald with the Phillies. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...mp;lid=tab4pos1

December 8, 200817 yr What the hell is Stark smoking? We don't need more infielders! We need a catcher, more outfield help, and maybe some more relievers.

December 8, 200817 yr If we wanted to start a defense-only guy at SS, why don't we just start Robert Andino and not trade a guy who could still develop into an above average producer like Hermida.

Oh, and Edwin Jackson is gonna come back down to Earth, even the Rays know that and thats why they are trying to deal him before his value is shot. If they really thought that a guy with a 98mph fastball could consistently turn in performances like he did last year, than they would be keeping him.

December 8, 200817 yr If we trade Hermida for Jason Bartlett and Edwin Jackson, it won't matter. My rage will cause the sun to supernova and all of us will be dead.

I'd instantly plug Bartlett at 2nd base instead of Uggla, making uggla expendable.... Yeah, lets trade a guy who had a very good .OPS in the big leagues at the age of 23, for Jason Bartlett...to put Bartlett at 2B (like if we don't have the Bonifacio's and Andino's of the world already) and take Uggla (the All-Star caliber 2B) out. Our lineup wouldn't take a huge hit or anything. Great idea. Oh yeah...almost forgot. Lets play with 2 outfielders. That's always fun.

December 8, 200817 yr How could you turn down Hermida for Bartlett plus Jackson/Sonnanstine.... Might not be what we need most. That is a good deal though. Might allow you to shop some other parts for other things you need

December 8, 200817 yr How could you turn down Hermida for Bartlett plus Jackson/Sonnanstine.... Might not be what we need most. That is a good deal though. Might allow you to shop some other parts for other things you need Easily, because Bartlett isn't any good. I also don't like Jackson at all nor am I as sold on Sonnanstine's future as I am on Hermida's. (Even though I know the majority is probably on the different side of the Jackson thing.)
December 8, 200817 yr I would love to get a Jackson or Sonnanstine, but Bartlett just doesn't make sense to me. We are already thin on MLB ready outfielders right now, although I am not a big fan of Hermida, I wouldn't trade him unless it fills a team need at the current time, such as another MLB ready OFer or a backup catcher and a pitcher
December 8, 200817 yr Edwin Jackson = 25 year old next year with a career 5.15 ERA / 1.63 WHIP...the guy has control problems. Don't give me the potential bullcrap after all the negative crap that's been written on Hermida on here. Also...some of you saying "yes,"...if I go back to the Cantu thread and those same of you said "no" to Cantu for Sanchez...you guys seriously shouldn't try analyzing trades anymore. This makes no sense. At all.

You just take him and hope something good ocmes out of it. I would take either pitcher over Hermida. He hasn't impressed me at all.... Also, maybe we turn around one of hte pitchers we have or one of them for another OFer.... Just hotstove/pipe dream talks.

I mean, I could be less than the angriest person ever if it's Hermida for Sonnanstine and that throwin, but I've talked about my dislike for Jackson before. I don't think he's going to be any good, not like the hopes I still have for Hermida. I guess it all comes down to if you think it's worth keeping the soon-to-be 25-year-old Hermida or not.
