Israel pleas with US to attack Iran

Just so annoying and frustrating.

Israel should just attack them themselves...

It personally shocked me, that with all of the saber-rattling going on in the administration the last couple of years over Iran, we actually said NO to Israel's request.

I agree too. Im sick of the whole "Support Israel" thing. They got themselves into it and they are hardly more correct than those fighting them.

Bingo.

That sucks. Doesn't seem like the norm for this board, did you get an explanation??

If the US was not controlling Iraqi airspace they would.

I got an idea. Instead, let's tell the Israelis that if they would like to live in peace, they can come here.

I am still surprised they haven't attacked Egypt, Jordan, Syria or Lebanon. They seem like they are itching for an all out war and want to be the centerpiece.

I have very little trust in the competence of the incoming Zionist White House but I highly doubt we see anything like this.

as opposed the zionist white houses of the last 70 years?

Is it me, or does it feel like it's 1938 all over again, between this site, Digg, and the Western mainstream media?

Put down the haterade. . . Israel doesn't want to be the centerpiece, and it doesn't want a full scale war in the middle east.?

It asked the US to attack Iran!! For no reason. At least they have border disputes with those other countries.

That have tangible ties to Iran. So while I'm not going to pass judgment on whether that was wise or not, I am going to say that Iran's actions have turned that into a border/existential dispute.

Yep. And some people on this board just continue to surprise me. They are clearly looking for stuff ALL day just to bash Israel. And I dont even understand why. They say they are neutral one the issue, but are you serious?

first of all, that report was a leak from the WH. Wether this is true or not, we don't know.?

Also...How can you claim for no reason? A country that has called for wiping out israel and it is developing nuclear technology.

Except that:

1. They are far away from actual nuclear weapons

2. Their president, despite his rhetoric, has no real power over the Iranian military. That rests in the hands of the ayatollahs.

They won't do anything unless they have the support of our government. We typically have a government overrun by Zionists but I don't think we've gotten quite to the point of permitting Israel to launch massive offensives over those countries.

ha ha-baiting anyone penguin? What is an example of our government being "overrun" by Zionists. You mean like a mass of Jews out of control. Or do you mean Americans who support a free and democratic country defending themselves. Are the Jews in our government, our business not Americans? Cmon, be honest you believe in this-"Some people think," he told a Berlin rally in June 1935, "that we haven?t noticed how the Jews are trying once again to spread themselves over all our streets. The Jews ought to please observe the laws of hospitality and not behave as if they were the same as us."(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Goebbels)

I know, most people don't respond to you-they truly are smarter than me-they just let your drivel go by without comment.

I agree with penguino on this issue.

Yeah, if he was such a terrorist I think we would have arrested him when he visited the United States and Columbia U in September of 2007.

Well that would have been the beginning of war anyways. But still.

Isnt the united states supposed to be a friggin isolationist country anyways? Thats what this country was born off of. Not wanting to deal with Europe. The Monroe Doctrine. The Roosevelt Corollary. Ignoring both World Wars until they were practically forced into them. Goodness, what has happened.

Not isolationist, but non-interventionist.

As for what happened - Zionism became very popular in the post-Holocaust world. That, and then a very effective pro-Israel lobby developed in the US, which is arguably the most effective lobby in American politics. Perhaps anywhere in the world.

Also...How can you claim for no reason? A country that has called for wiping out israel and it is developing nuclear technology.

So a leader of a country saying something is now justification for an attack? And how many countries has Iran EVER attacked or invaded? How many has Israel attacked or invaded? If having (or wanting) nukes is so bad, why is it ok that Israel has more than 200 nuclear weapons? Should they honestly be afraid of the offchance that Iran might build one? Israel's military is so far of ahead of Iran's that the idea of Iran posing a serious threat to Israel is comical. I could get into the whole issue of our foreign policy and nuclear weapons, but that's a side issue. It is remarkable though how Israel, through it's lobby, maintains a perception in the US of being a victim and non-aggressor in it's many conflicts.

Excuse me, that was the term I was looking for. Its in our best interests to not get involved with anything, yet nowadays the US has to be the big savior everywhere. Things were better the way they were back then.

And on your 2nd quote I agree with you fully. Though some of the comments can get a bit ridiculous at times, I see absolutely no reason why the United States owes any alliance to anyone over there. Let them deal with their own problems. If Israel wants to be the big bully in the Middle East, then so be it. Im neither pro Israel nor pro Iran, because both are wrong on so many levels. (comments such as "wipe Israel off the map, simply because it is not logical. Should have just not made it there in the first place.)

I agree with penguino on this issue.

I agree as well. Israel has WAY too much power over our politicians through lobbyists.

Just look at how things are now. If you come out and imply publicly that Israel might be just as culpable in the current situation for civilian deaths as Hamas (or the Palestinians as a whole), you will be absolutely destroyed. Especially if you happened to be around any neoconservative pundits (then God help you).

This current situation happened at an interesting time, because I just started reading a very good book about Israel's power in this country. It's called 'The Israel Lobby and US Foreign Policy' by John J. Mearsheimer and Stephen M. Walt. I highly recommend it if you either do not have a lot of knowledge of AIPAC and similar groups (I did not know much at all), or you want to hear an unbiased account of some of the more controversial historical moments since Israel has been founded (ie. War of Independence, Six Day War, First Lebanon War, Second Lebanon War, and the various peace processes). The authors did a lot of researching and found some surprising information that generally contradicted the normal historical accounts.

none what-so-ever and I doubt thats what Fox News is talking about. I just loathe :whistle Israel so considering they currently have border disputes with those countries and they seem to be on the offense I was throwing it out there.
