Unless we sign a catcher we have to keep Rabello so i'd cut either McDallas or Gaby after they battle it out in spring training we'll see who has better hitting and fielding stats and also tendencies vs pithcers and how they respond to certain situations.

Since the Marlins have four 1B/3B players, I imagine one of those will have to go. It won't be Helms and his brand new contract, and it won't be Cantu unless he's traded, which I think is still a possibility. So, as MP already suggested, it will most likely be a battle during ST between McPherson and Sanchez to see who gets the final roster spot. If I had to pick one, I would want to see Gaby stay and let Dallas go.

I'd say Rabelo, but he has to stay because we still haven't signed a catcher yet. I guess we have to send Sanchez or Bonifacio down to Triple A, or let Mcpherson go.

If I had to pick one, I would want to see Gaby stay and let Dallas go. I disagree. Gaby Sanchez, from everything that has been said by the organization, is the frontrunner to win the first base job. The final spot will be a battle between Dallas and Bonifacio. It basically comes down to a choice between speed/defense or power coming off your bench. Considering Dallas is out of options, and releasing him for nothing is pointless, I would say he likely has the edge. He also offers insurance if Gaby falters and provides a power left-handed bat off the bench, which is something we are lacking. The only way I see Bonifacio making the team out of ST is if we fail to sign an additional outfielder and the team has confidence in letting McDallas and Amezega handle that role. To answer the question, I would have Bonifacio cut out of the above thirteen in order to make room for a legitimate 4th outfielder.

Let Bonifacio spend a year in New Orleans (that is if we sign a 4th outfielder) and possibly get a call up in September.
February 9, 200917 yr And let's not forget we have a three or four or five or six guys coming into camp with every intention of winning the job besides the candidates mentioned above. It's hard for me to believe one of them isn't going to step up and contribute at the major league level in 2009.

And going that route, because of the trade, it'd more likely be McPherson.

In all honesty, I'm starting to accept the idea that Gibbons might be it in terms of outfield acquisitions this offseason. If that is the case, I'm hoping Dallas takes a few flyballs before spring training starts.
