Backup Outfielders

You know we don't really wanna kill you. It's those damn smilies you keep using.

Speak for yourself, I can't believe I missed out on the I wanna kill Erick thread!

I'm not watching the game but from looking at the box score - Brett Carroll hit an RBI double as he pinch hit for JJ. He is now hitting .444 with 7 RBI this Spring. Considering the awesome strength of his arm from the Outfield in addition to his fine hitting in ST I think it would be a wise move to have him on the squad come Opening Day.

He's had good at-bats. He seems like a lock now since he is a great fielder and he is coming around at the plate.

I love Carroll as our fourth outfielder. I honestly believe with a shot as a regular he could put up very similar numbers to Cody's line from last year.

They certainly are similiar players, and that'd definitely be a best case scenerio. Carroll doesn't walk nearly as much (6.2% MILB career, 5.7 MLB career) but it's not a big difference (Cody last year was 6.7%). It's just a question of, can Carroll get his K's down to Cody's low-20%. His MILB career is 22%, but you also have to expect an increase from MILB pitching to MLB pitching. But with his power, he certainly should put up a similiar ISO to Cody's. If he could put up a, what, .250/.310/.430 line, with his defense, he'd be about an average CFer, good 4th OFer. Unfortunately, for the time being, it looks more likely that he'll put up something like a .230/.290/.390 line.
