March 13, 200917 yr Amezaga is hurt and the other two are being considered for OF according to the manager in the Herald. Obviously he's hurt. But he shouldn't miss more than April. And the other two should only be getting reps in the OF in order to improve their versatility and make them a viable backup IF + 5th OF. That's my point.

He gets the start in LF today so a strong performance would certainly give the management something to consider. I like how Logan Morrison survived the first cuts, which he merited from a nice outing last night against the Mets.

With Amezaga out of the equation for now, either keep Andino and send down Bonifacio or keep Bonifacio and get rid of Andino who's out of options. I like Morrison but he's no outfielder yet. Keep Carrol, De Aza or Raynor. I'd be happy with any of those.

Carroll still figures to struggle at the plate (I like him so I hope I'm wrong); De Aza is severly lacking in power; Raynor's strikeouts......he needs a bit more time in the minors, IMO (at least he brings decent power). Man, I wish we had a more reliable guy with some pop, but I guess that's not to be.

I know this sounds crazy, but if you heard 790 during Fanfest, you heard that the Marlins really don't care where Cantu plays, as long as he's in the lineup, regularly.....and it's no secret he's a below average defensive 3B. It's also no secret that the Marlins like Gaby Sanchez, for example, and would love to see him win a spot at 1B. He was the favorite before Spring Training began. It might sound silly, but don't be surprised if Jorge Cantu or even Wes Helms get some time in LF this year. This doesn't mean Cantu isn't going to play 3B...just means that there could be a lot of position shifting/platooning this year. The other OF spot going to Bonifacio/Andino...at least until Amezaga comes back.
March 13, 200917 yr i would definitely think gibbons but i dont know why everything does not like jai miller as he is another 5 tool player I can only assume that you mean he owns a hammer, screwdriver, saw, pliers, and a wrench. I haven't seen anything I don't like about Jai. He fields well enough. Plenty of speed and takes nice routes to the ball. Haven't had the opportunity to see how much arm strength he has. He looks comfortable at the plate, just don't think his bat is ready yet. He's a future bench player, the Robert Andino of our outfield.

I'd imagine Cantu would be athletic enough to play it well. Dallas has some experience in LF aswell. I definitely think we're fine, more or less. My original impression as I've said before was Dallas basically becoming Hinske, but if it's Cantu, that's no surprise either. I'd imagine it'd up his trade value aswell, adding another level of versitility.

March 13, 200917 yr My memory of McPherson's time in left field last season was it didn't go particularly well and he didn't enjoy it much either. I'm not even sure he actually played any number of games at the position, rather was working out in anticipation of a possible move. He may not have actually appeared in a game in 2008 as a leftfielder. MiLB stats being what they are and TBC not showing any playing time there since 2004, which in fact was one game.

That is crazy I like Brett Carroll as our 4th Outfielder even ADA but it appears it may be Bonifacio and Andino. That isn't fair to Carroll who has worked hard and is easily our best defensive Outfielder I imagine that Nolasco would prefer in a 2-1 ball game in the 9th inning Carroll as a defensive replacement over either of the other 2 guys
March 21, 200917 yr Both Bonifacio (man he is in need of a nickname) and Carroll have been hitting of late but with Hanley and Amezaga hurt they may keep both Andino and Bonifacio. Carrol has been earning it though. ADA has had some clutch hits but he's also struck out a little too much.
March 22, 200917 yr It also seems like everytime they're in the lineup, Carroll and Raynor are doing the little things right, too. Carroll's had a few outfield assists lately, and I believe Raynor had one the other day to go along with his sacrifice bunt.

Raynor smacked a solo shot and Carroll had two hits to go along with an RBI. He's appearing more likely to be a lock for the 25-man.

I know I like all 3 of them but Carroll would be the frontrunner on my scorecard Best defender, best arm and he has been hitting the cover off the ball. Raynor, showing he is an awesome prospect, should start everyday in New Orleans this season. ADA can handle the job as well. I see no reason for Amezaga to play the Outfield for the Marlins again except in an isolated pinch
