Would you make this deal?

We need Lowell and Urbina (now that Phils have Wagner, Braves Smoltz).

We dont need Lee, Castillo - easily replaced (Conine and free agent 2B, Vina, Young, or Hooper/Medina...).

Would like to keep Pudge - but if that doesnt happen, I expect us to go hard after Vlad.

Truthfully, if Pudge wants to stay, he is going to have to take a pay cut. Hey, he is at home, no income tax, and gets to work with the best rotation IN THE GAME. If that doesnt appeal to him, then he is only after money. I dont think that is the case...but if so, bye bye and bring in Vlad. If Castro survives court charges, we will be fine.

I'll want Vi?a, i dont think Hooper is ready for the MLB

I agree. Lowell and Rodriguez are guys to build around. I expect them tobe signed. People underestimate Castillo, he will be missed. But he is probably going. Trade Lee for a good second baseman. The team will also need an outfielder or two, if Encarnacion goes.

Why would you build around a 32 year old? Lowell/Lee/Castillo and the pitching staff are the backbone of this team.

Lee can be easily replace offensively but defensively might never be able to replace him.Lee will be an easy choice to get rid of and acquire a good prospect in return.

How bout this:

Lee/Castillo to STL for Bo Hart/JD Drew

my opinion: we prob lose Lee or Castillo, so why not trade them right now for a young talent at 2nd and an of w/ a great upside. STL would love it because right now they have one too many OF and they have a hole at 1st. We can afford to lose Luis if we get a run producer for him, and thats exactly what we get in Bo Hart. JD Drew is the wild card here. He could do anything from hitting 30 hr to missing most of the season. thats where juan enc would come into play. having him on the bench to come in late or to take pressure off Drew would be gr8 for this team.

Trading Lowell for Helton would be good- if we keep pudge.

With my trade, the starting lineup is this:

C Pudge/Castro (sign PUDGE)

1B Conine

2B Hart

SS A-Gon

3B Lowell

LF Cabs

CF JP

RF Drew/Enc

You aren't going to pay Enc $4-5 million to sit on the bench. Not on this team.

Helton for Lowell? Perhaps you ought to polish up on Helton's atrocious contract before you make that suggestion again.

This is a team that will be challenged to increase payroll to $65 million this year, including the $9.50 million due in salaries for the Colorado deal and signing Pudge.

I know Helton is probably a better player but he does play in coors and hasnt really shown he can hit for power out of coors.

Check out his 2003 Stats:

Home= .391avg 23hrs 72rbis .480obp .739slg in 299atbats

Road= .324avg 10hrs 45rbis .435obp .514slg in 284atbats

As you can plainly see coors helps his stats ALOT!!! Add to his enouromous contract I'm not too sure I will leap on that deal if it were proposed to us. I think i would pass on that deal and keep the warrior lowell. :thumbup

I agree -- I'm afraid that Helton, out of Coors, won't be worth THAT much money.

Not eveyone is Juan Pierre when it comes to leaving the Mile High City ;)

You know, if this does go down I wouldn't be surprised to see the Rockies provide some monetary compensation.

I've been thinking about the money angle here, and this Helton for Lowell deal (whatever the Rockies include notwithstanding). We might actually save money.

You all see Helton's contract up there. But think about it this way. Mikey would have been 7 mil, he is off the books. You get a very capable hitter to replace him in the lineup, one of the top 5 hitters in the league and he is that lefty presence you all scream about. He plays Gold Glove defense at first (look it up), and now Miguel plays third while Jeff gets a chance to contribute everyday in left. Lee can be traded, and now with the Gold Glove and everything he will be a nice hot commodity. Never mind the fact his 5-7 mil is off the books as well.

I would hate to see Mikey go. He is a great guy and a symbol for our team. But if he has to go, this way I wouldn't mind as much.

juanky, you do know this is just Ed's idea right? there is nothing to this rumor and once again, Helton's contract would kill us...

and he is nowhere near the player he is in COL that he would be in FLA

thank you ramp and marlins girls. for seeing what i see. :D Plus juanky like ramp said this was just an idea by edcanes not a true rumor so calm down. :lol

The face in his post tells me otherwise.

And again, I'm not 100% for it. Just wouldn't mind it is all. Plus, I do not believe Helton will drop off that much outside of Coors.

Im not sayin hes not a good hitter put i dont think he has as much power as he has shown in previous years in coors. just look at the stats when he is on the road.

Heltons Power #'s will Drop.

But those Homers will turn into Doubles in the Pro.

Plus he still hits around .330 on the Road with that GG type defense.

I am with Juanky. I am not 100% for a deal like this but i wouldnt mind it

ya i know but im just sayin dont expect the same numbers in the homerun category if he would go to any pitcher's park. But ya he would hit around .330 still and drive in runs but i still dont know if i would do it if the deal would come up.

jonny a premium closer (UU) is far too much of a luxury for a bottom third payroll team, so unless he takes a cut wave goodbye.

Eddie Guardado anyone?
