November 7, 200322 yr Castillo is a Yankee. I see him in a Cardinals uniform ... Steinbrainfarts will make an offer he won't refuse...
November 7, 200322 yr I think Luis will stay...but thats just me Now if only Pudge can get rid of that damn Boras :mischief2
November 7, 200322 yr The Yankees dangling big money is about the only way Luis will not be a Marlin next season. I'd expect something like a 3 yr/$21 mil offer from the Fish to retain him. I fully expect the core of the team to be around. These guys seem to have learned the lesson.
November 7, 200322 yr I dont see him as a Marlins Next season also. He is asking for too much and with the Yankees after him making the big pitch next week. We need to find a replacement. I Think Vina would be perfect for us....
November 7, 200322 yr People, please take into consideration the possibility that Castillo would choke in the NY atmosphere and under the constant scrutiny of the Boss... There are serious doubts about his mental capacity to handle NY. It takes a special kind of player to do that and I don't think Castillo has what he needs. BTW, what do the Yankees want to do with Soriano, trade him or convert him in an OF? If they send him here and pay for most of his salary, I would gladly send them Castillo and Almaza gifft-wrapped and everything... :w00t
November 7, 200322 yr why would they pay most of his salary?(Soriano)...he isnt making much and you cant trade Luis, he is a FA
November 7, 200322 yr NYStar Ledger Castillo, who would probably be seeking a three- or four-year contract worth about $7 million per year also in this article is that the Yankees may go after Schilling or Vazquez and Soriano or Nick Johnson may be involved fromNewsday.com Castillo, despite a disappointing World Series, is still coveted by the Mets because of his defensive skills and his bat in the top third of the order. The Mets envision the switch-hitting Castillo in the leadoff spot followed by Jose Reyes, another switch hitter, in a speedy tandem not unlike what the Marlins had with Castillo and Juan Pierre. Castillo, also a Gold Glover, hit .314 last season, but was only 21-for-40 in stolen-base attempts, and his lack of success on the basepaths may have been caused by a sore hip. The condition is not believed to be chronic, however. Castillo, 28, has averaged more than 30 stolen bases in each of his eight seasons with the Marlins. Red Sox also interested in Luis
November 7, 200322 yr why would they pay most of his salary?(Soriano)...he isnt making much and you cant trade Luis, he is a FA Ramp, I don't know how much Soriano is making. I probably assumed that since he is playing for the Yankees his salary would be higher than Castillo's. I know you cannot trade Castillo since he is a FA, I was just entertaining the thought. I also read that the Yankees are looking to trade Soriano for his postseason problems (a completely idiotic idea if you ask me), or perhaps move him to the outfield. Wouldn't you love to have a 38HR guy with SB speed batting behind Pierre? He is also a good 2B, perhaps younger than Castillo is. Do you know how much is Soriano making?
November 7, 200322 yr While a Marlins' three-year offer likely would fall in the $18 milllion to $20 million range, the Yankees may be willing to add a fourth year, bringing the total value of the contract to about $30 million. Sorry, but we can't afford 7 mil a year for Luiy. No way. It has been fun Luiy. Thanks for 7 years of great defense and annoyance at the top of the order. Have fun in pinstripes.

Soriano made $800,000 in 2003 he should make around $2mil this year(2004)

I read a couple of articles where they say the Yankees were looking to trade Soriano and Nick Johnson, or convert Soriano to OF. Soriano might not be that good defensively when compared to Castillo, but has more power, good SB speed, and is younger and probably cheaper. I don't know, it is a possibility... :whistle
