Interesting and probably true. What would be your most realistic speculation? (if that's not an oxymoron).

 

I am completely in the dark as to what is coming, I just feel something is. The three most likely trade candidates - Uggla, Hermida and Coghlan (you could make the case in Coghlan he's worth less now than when he was a prospect in the minors hitting .350 or whatever it was) are not playing well enough to bring any kind of significant return, might as well throw Ross in there too, you aren't trading, Ramirez, JJ or Volstad --- I have no idea really.

 

 

Yeah, but do you think the organization has already given up on Coghlan? I'd much rather see Ross/Hermida/Uggla go than him. I mean he's been up for not even 2 weeks.

I think that bringing him up as a showcase would have served two purposes had to it gone better, *and yes he hasn't been here that long and could still work out nicely* - one being the team gets the help they need and wins more games - maybe lights a fire under some others - and second his trade value would have increased significantly giving them a marketable commodity without breaking up the nucleus of the team.

Ok, I understand and don't disagree with that strategy. I just hope that if we do trade Coghlin that we don't make it a habit, because there are certain people in our farm system that I am anxiously awaiting and would be very upset if we traded.

It's one thing if your team is entirely devoid of high caliber talent and you know that. But honestly, our core group of players is as good as any team in the league. We had a lot of reasons to be pleased after the kids showed their talent in the second half of 2006. I know we lost Johnson at the end and that really muddied things up, but all I have seen since that year is a series of bad moves and when you come down to it, the inability to put our team in the position to go to the next level.

 

This offseason was really the breaking point for me. I've enumerated the reasons in other threads and I grow tired of mentioning them. But things have unraveled rather predicatably this season, considering the way the FO showed no interest in acquiring depth, and whats worse is that I just don't see us getting better without acquiring talent that could have been easily attained in the offseason but is now going to be very expensive via trade, which essentially prohibits it altogether. So its a lost season, and it can all be traced to bad decisions over the offseason.

 

I'm not happy about that. This team should have improved, like the front office seeemed to indicate it would. Instead, we took a major step back, and the window of opportunity for our current crop of talent is essentially closing, considering our payroll constraints.

i generally dont have a problem with beinfest but that jacobs deal was just awful. We traded a 30+ home run 90-100 RBI guy for a middle reliever. I dont care how good Leo Nunez is thats a TERRIBLE return. If they didnt want to keep Jacobs, theres no problem with that, but at least get some return for him. We could have gotten some quality young arms for him.

According to your profile you were born in 1993. No where near what you are trying to insinuate. And I beg to differ. After reading your posts I have concluded, apparently with many others, you have FAR from grown up....so go trim my hedges.

I know may be a minority of one but I'd still like to see Ramirez and Uggla reunited in the lineup. I'm not suggesting at the top, but if it were 3-4 with Cantu hitting fifth, I see a lot of good coming from it. No reason to rush to explain why I'm wrong, it's just an opinion.

 

 

I wouldn't mind seeing Cantu sit for a few days and rest that hand/wrist. It just seems like that has been a problem for him that maybe he is downplaying. Not DL him, just let him get some treatment and rest it. Really couldn't hurt at this point.

 

Uggla on the other hand (no pun intended) is still looking like crap. What is up with that swing at times? How many swings do you see where his back knee is almost touching the ground? Stop swinging for the fences and concentrate on taking what the pitcher is giving him. The other things will fall into place after that.

 

That must have been Presley I saw napping in the dugout. Somebody send 9er, Hawk, and Perez over to wake him up, please.

He's in the AL now where he can DH, he'll make $6 million next season, we received a very effective, low cost reliever who can close and has been extremely reliable. And I was a fan of Jacobs when he was here not a basher, but he's not worth the same to a NL club as he is an AL one.

 

If Uggla, Hermida and Ross (and lately Cantu but the man is playing injured) were showing the kind of productivity they did last season, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Have you noticed how improved the defense is with EB and Cantu at the corners vs this time last season? We are struggling offensively so it magnifies everything.

Once again you have brought up a point that I kinda touched on in the past, yet not nearly as deep as this. And I think your way is more correct.

 

New pond on the horizon. Trying like crazy to sell season ticket packages for those guaranteed seats. More season tickets sold means more income means higher payrolls. We should/could be a middle of the road payroll by the time the new pond opens, not after.

 

I don't know if I would go as far as saying landscape-changing trade coming soon. I do see a trade or two coming. And especially if one of these OFers we are bringing up start to show something with their bats. I do think a firing is right around the corner tho.

I see it from a different perspective because of the history of the last year or so. If he gets it together, or ADA does, then I see it as a route to trade Jeremy. Jeremy is still inconsistent offensively. Something it was well known he had to iron out in order to remain a Marlin. And just going by the article on marlins.com, it seems like the team is looking this way as well. BTW An article there on Boni seems to be saying the team is seeing the same things only about three of us here have been saying.

We are all very familiar with this team's limited payroll and the reasons or excuses for it.

 

Being the young, lowest payroll underdogs every year is part of this team's charm. As fans of the Marlins, the very first thing we need to do is realize this and hope for the best until our fortunes improve when the new ballpark opens in 2012. The payroll will increase then and not before.

 

The front office is not going to go on a spending spree now. Get this though your heads! They may bring up more young guys from the minors to see which gives us a spark, but please forget about Pedro or any major trades that includes big salaries.

This FO better not trade Jeremy Hermida now. He's getting on-base at an amazing rate so far, so It would be dumb to trade him.

I think the Marlins have good parts on their team(youth/potential/ramirez/volstad/johnson_ but there are a lot of holes bring exposed right now.
