Your can trade Cantu, Uggla, Hermida, Cody, Paulino, Helms and all the other older players who have player waiting to take there spots.

Hanley Ramirez is the future. He is also the present. I read an article this past week in which he was voted the one player in the league to build a franchise around if given the choice. This team may be "cheap ass" but we have already signed Hanley to a 6 year deal of incredible value. Also it has been well publicised that our payroll will jump to the league average once the new ballpark opens.

 

We are playing bad baseball in May but we have the talent on our roster to play to a much higher standard, and the change in performances could happen any time now.

Yeah, that was when they were about to make big money. We already signed Hanley to an affordable contract. Money is not an issue with Hanley.

Yeah we also trade Miguel and Dontrelle for "THE FUTURE" Of this organization and so far the 2 top prospects have both been questinable and the others are meh.

Mike Jacobs is the epitome of why this team had inconsistent offense last year (and continues to have it this year). DUMB, DUMB, DUMB ball player.

I don't know what you mean by "inconsistent" but I would rather have a so-called "inconsistent" offense like last year's that was the strength of the team and one best in the league as opposed to a consistently bad offense like this year's that's the 2nd or 3rd worst in the league.

That's a good point. All we have to do bring back Pierre Willis and un-retire Conine. JJ is Beckett. I really would love Pierre back on this team. I think it would make a huge difference.

Yes, Erick. This is a very funny thread. All I'm going to do is grin and bear it right now as it's still May and I still have confidence. If we continue to have the same problems throughout the year as detrimental as they currently are, then it will really be time to start serious complaining and criticism. For now, yes I'm disappointed so far, but it's early...still....real early.

Also a quick point here, is that the obvious lack of home runs this year is one reason that we are struggling. At this point last year, we were first or second in all of baseball in home runs with Philadelphia. Currently, we sit 18th in MLB in home runs. So if we had some of that "dumb, ignorant" power hitting that we had last year, at least we'd be putting up more runs. I mean more power is what it is...more home runs, more runs, more runs batted in, and more chances of winning, but I would personally prefer just better hitting in general. We already lead the bigs in strikeouts this year, so we should just keep swinging for the fences, right? Lol..

 

We obviously have pitching problems to solve, but I think those might soon solve themselves. JJ & Volstad are both solid. Nolasco is severely struggling, but maybe he can fix the problem in his mechanics or fix whatever problem he has, because I really don't think his season last year was a fluke. Sanchez could be solid after he comes back of the DL, but we'll have to wait and see. Miller...who really knows. We need to see some more of him. Koronka and Taylor were both brutal. So what I'm saying is that pitching is a wait and see type of thing, because our pitching was pretty highly touted before the season started.

 

The offense is the real concern, to me, however I realize that if things don't work out after we give it time, then we're going to need to make a move. If this means trading Uggla, then so be it. I've been under the assumption since the beginning of last year that he has no longer term future with the team. As for Cantu, I say we ride him for all he's got. We signed him to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training and he's turned into gold. We should keep him for the entire 2009 season and then possibly trade him next year while his value is still somewhat decent. We should go after hitters with good averages and high OBP, even if that means losing some power. I thought this was the plan from the end of 2008.

 

Does anyone think we could go after Pierre in July when Manny gets back? I would love to get him back in in Miami and he is what we need at the top of the order (as always...he is the perfect lead off hitter). Also, he's not exactly young so we would know what we're getting out of him. There wouldn't be much speculation there as there was with Bonifacio and Maybin at the point in their careers (still early).

 

Sorry such a long post, but I'll admit that I have been a big fan of the team since I started watching baseball, but my interest has never been this high in the Marlins and the entire baseball world, so hopefully I can become a more productive poster here, because I love this team, even though we suck right now.

I know may be a minority of one but I'd still like to see Ramirez and Uggla reunited in the lineup. I'm not suggesting at the top, but if it were 3-4 with Cantu hitting fifth, I see a lot of good coming from it. No reason to rush to explain why I'm wrong, it's just an opinion.

With the way Cantu has been swinging the bat I agree.

 

Uggla has been stingng the ball but just right at everybody or the fielders make great plays.

Cantu has k'ed a lot as of late and has been hitting week grounders. Just switch Cantu to the 5 Uggla to the 4 hermida to 6th then Coghlan 7th and Cody 8th.

Kepping Cody 8th has given him many chances to hit fastballs and he has done well the past few games.

 

My biggest concern is a leadoff hitter.

I'd rather have someone who has a high OBP like Hermida rather that Bonifacio although he does have great speed.

If Cody heats up then maybe we could move him to the 1 spot like he did a while back if not then Hermida and Hanley.

Also if Coghlan heats up then i'd consider putting him up there.

my issue is not that we traded jacobs. my issue is what we got for him. hes a lefty power bat thats either in his prime or entering it and we got a middle reliever for him. unless leo nunez becomes a starter that is a horrible trade. you can throw all the "he sucks at defense, he doesnt get onbase" lines at me but that doesnt negate his production or the fact that hes a lefty power bat who over the last few years was one of our most productive players.

 

i didnt like him that much while he was here either cuz he was a dumb player, but the fact is that this offense misses him now. we cant score without the home run still and he was our best RBI guy last year. And we got nowhere near fair value for him. leo nunez is a solid middle reliever who had an ERA around 3 last year in 48 innings. So we traded a 32 home run, 93, RBI lefty power bat for a middle releiver?

 

And i didnt like Jacobs at all. And I know he was part of the problem with this team last year, but dont try and say it was "addition by subtraction" when its obvious we miss his home runs. And in the end he would have been cheaper to keep than Uggla. I dont mind us dumping him but the return was terrible and thats not a knock on Nunez because I think hes going to be a decent bullpen guy for a couple of years but considering our lack of pitching depth in the minors its foolish to say no one would have been willing to part with more than a middle reliever for a guy like Mike Jacobs.

Everyone knows you hide once the Mets begin their annual choke job.

He's in the AL now where he can DH, he'll make $6 million next season, we received a very effective, low cost reliever who can close and has been extremely reliable. And I was a fan of Jacobs when he was here not a basher, but he's not worth the same to a NL club as he is an AL one.

 

If Uggla, Hermida and Ross (and lately Cantu but the man is playing injured) were showing the kind of productivity they did last season, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Have you noticed how improved the defense is with EB and Cantu at the corners vs this time last season? We are struggling offensively so it magnifies everything.

 

I still *think* there is a landscape-changing trade coming sooner rather than later. This season is too important financially to the franchise to let it slip away this early.

I am completely in the dark as to what is coming, I just feel something is. The three most likely trade candidates - Uggla, Hermida and Coghlan (you could make the case in Coghlan he's worth less now than when he was a prospect in the minors hitting .350 or whatever it was) are not playing well enough to bring any kind of significant return, might as well throw Ross in there too, you aren't trading, Ramirez, JJ or Volstad --- I have no idea really.

 

Attendance has been good this season for a number of reasons (the Fish are like 26th last time I checked as opposed to the usual bottom of the list) and part of that is people buying (even the minimum) ticket packages needed to qualify for seats in the new stadium. You can't let that momentum die and you need some sizzle to sell to corporate sponsors.
