When the Marlins score 4 or fewer runs....

Featured Replies

They have a record of 5-16...

worry about the pitching all ye want... this team is going to lose 100 games if they keeps scoring 3 to 4 runs a game.

Doesn't this prove that we should worry about the pitching, since the league average for runs in a game is around 4 (I may be wrong)? I think the NL Average SP ERA was 4.29 in 2008. So they should be winning the average amount of games if they are getting average pitching.

I'm not sure your numbers are right either but you just mentioned SP...

are we expecting a 0.00 from our Bullpen the entire year?

btw, for the entire year the marlins are scoring 4.6 runs per (this include the 11-1 start)

I got the numbers here.

It was actually overall ERA, not just SP.

The pitching, i'll agree, has been frustrating at times this year and the guys that have been called up (with the exeption of Hopper) have been real bad...

but...

The hitting on this team is just so atrociously inconsistent and its what frustrates me most...

what good does 3-0, 2-0 early leads do when you don't score any runs after the 5th inning?

Last night is an example of why this team's hitting frustrates me, 12 hits and 3 runs.... The fact is the team is just playing horrible right now, pitching and hitting need to find some consistency.

It seems like the team was playing better when Hanley was batting in the .280's

now that he's tearing the cover off the ball, it feels like everyone is looking up at him and saying to themselves "Hanley, please hit a HR everytime up, ok, thanks!"

So we're scoring just about average this year?

We're 10th in run scoring and 15th in OBP + SLG.

Our offense has stunk.

That's ridiculous. I mean, I've always felt OPS was a flawed stat, but it should be flawed in out FAVOR, with the team we have.

It's ridiculous that our scoring, on the season, has been so close to average.

Plus, we're 3rd in R/G allowed (5.08) and 11th in ERA.

Our pitching has stunk.

They both have.

You wanna know why we're losing? WAY too many big innings. I don't know how many games the Marlins have allowed an inning with 4 runs or more, sometimes even with 2 outs.

not enough big innings for our offense, I say.

scoring 2 to 3 runs in the early stages of the game and then doing nothing the rest of the game offensively isn't going to translate into winning.

hitting is/should be this ball clubs biggest concern

Did you just agree with me in that our offense has stunk but at the same time you wrote that my comment is ridiculous?

I'm confused.

No, I meant that the situation is ridiculous. Your comment is right on.

Doesn't this thread just prove that the pitching has been bad, as well?

Depending. 4 runs is just around average, and we are 1-5 in that situation. Not good on the pitching.

And since this thread is only counting how we are when we have below average runs, which most teams have a losing record in, I though it'd be nice to show this:

When the Marlins allow 5 or more runs, we are 2-18.

So, for those who decided to point out only our offensive problems and not our pitching problem, we've scored under the average runs 21 times and given up above the runs 20 times.

Seriously, worry about the hitting all you want, but you should be worrying about the pitching just as much.

The offense hasen't been great but they do score runs but our pitchers need to hold the leads. It seems like we either blow a lead late in the game or never lead at all when we lose.

I'd however love to see a game where we explode for 10 runs and shutout the oposing team, that should help the teams morale big time.

I honestly can't remember if we have had a blowout against a team thats not the Nationals?

Of course last year it took them 3 or 4 tries to win a game they scored 14 so its not always about the # of runs scored. Sadly this year they seem to want to coast when they get a lead instead of standing on the opponents throats.

In games when Marlins have scored 5 or more runs they have a record of 13-4

of those 13 wins in which the Marlins scored 5 or more runs, 11 of them happened in April (8 wins of the 11-1 start we scored 5+ runs).

This means we've only scored 5+ runs in the Month of May 5 times (in 17 total games)..... 5 divided by 17= 29.4% (we've scored less than 5 runs in 70% of our games this month, thats not good considering we played the Rockies three times in Coors field)

in April we scored 5+ runs 12 times (in 22 total games) .... 12/22= 54.5%

When the Marlins allow 5 or more runs, we are 2-18.

Ok? What does that have to do with the fact that we've given up more than average runs about as many times as we've gotten less than average runs?

Plus, your numbers aren't right. We scored 5+ runs 6 times - 1-May (6), 6-May (6), 8-May (8), 13-May (6), 16-May (6), 17-May (5). 4 of those were losses.

So 35% then. Yeah, not good, you obviously want that number to be closer to 50% to be an average team.

So, do you want to guess how any times we've given up LESS than 5+ runs, which means all the games we haven't given up more than the average number of runs?

6. 4-May (2), 7-May (4), 8-May (3), 9-May (1), 10-May (2), 16-May (2). So 35% then. 2 of those were loses. Once again, you want that to be around than 50% as to be an average team.

So, this month, we've been just as bad at giving up under the average number of runs as we have been getting more than the average number of runs. Literally the same number.

Last night was a perfect example of how inconsistent our hitting is and how often it comes up short in big spots....

pathetic
