May 28, 200917 yr I will cry if Bonifacio is leading off on Friday night. I wouldnt because that would mean hes with another team because we dont play today. Hence why I said Friday night. For some reason i thought today was friday. The summer starts and i forget which day of the week it is.
May 28, 200917 yr So i listened to the post game interview with fredi at miami herald and how is it that none of those reporters asked about boni?
May 28, 200917 yr So i listened to the post game interview with fredi at miami herald and how is it that none of those reporters asked about boni? My guess is that they know what the answer would be. It would be some stock answer of "He's our guy". Anyone else remember when Jorge Julio was "our guy" for the time when he went like 0-3 in saves and gave up 13 ER in 9.1 innings before we traded him? Maybe its not a fair comparison, but my point is... Fredi tends to run with people, showing faith and supporting them even when sometimes they just need a damn good kick in the ass. There's only so much support you can give someone before you end up coddling them instead. People debate all the time whether Bonifacio should be up here, leading off, on the bench or in the 8 hole...
May 28, 200917 yr I think the reporters should have asked about the Helms / Bonifacio play to find out what went wrong. It's incredible to me they didn't ask but not at all surprising.
May 28, 200917 yr Can someone please come up with a better insulting nickname for Bonifacio? I can't believe "boner" and "bonerface" are the best that can be made up. Kinda grinds my gears. Yes, sure. His last name's two last syllables are Facil Out ( Spanish translation for Easy Out ) so our leadoff hitter's name actually is: Emilio Boni F?cil out.
May 29, 200917 yr I stopped reading at that point, as I do with many "Beinfest makes bad trades!" posts. Did all of you just read somewhere that we used to have Choi and say "WHAT WHAT?!"? Do you all forget that he wasn't only a HUGE prospect at the time, but that he was REALLY good for us? I mean, really really good. Choi did hit pretty well while with us against He hit .270/.388/.495 for the Marlins in 95 games, which came out to a +132 OPS, which is obviously very, very good. But they shipped him off to the Dodgers, where he hit just .161 in 31 games in '04. In '05 the Dodgers used him in a platoon role and he hit .253/.336/.453, a +107 OPS, but he got caught up in political front office battles apparently. And now he's back home in Korea. With the Marlins while he was good as a hitter he was terrible defensively, and that's why he was traded away... Trader Jack, and his coaching staff tried to work with him over, and over, and he wouldn't get any better, and so he was sent packing to the Dodgers, and so I say if he was so good why did we just trade him away to the Dodgers with Brad Penny, and Double-A lefthander Bill Murphy in exchange for Guillermo Mota, Paul LoDuca and Juan Encarnacion. So while he did well with us he is a failed prospect, and he didn't last even 100 games here... So the guy we sent Lee packing for didn't last even 100 games here, and the 3 guys we got in return did nothing for us! Lo Duca was garbage by the time we got him, and Mota was terrible... Juan Encarnacion was what he was just an avarage player nothing special... Brad Penny went on to anchor their staff for a few years, and so one could say that the Dodgers got the best out of that deal also... Can someone please come up with a better insulting nickname for Bonifacio? I can't believe "boner" and "bonerface" are the best that can be made up. Kinda grinds my gears. I have my own pet name for him.... Bonifraudio! Because him being a 3b in the majors is the biggest Fraud going on in baseball right now!
May 29, 200917 yr and you realize Lee would have been a FA at the end of the year and was actually a non-tender candidate. So saying we only got 95 games out of Choi is kinda when you consider the fact we'd only have gotten 162 at best out of Lee. Plus Choi was then traded for other stuff, who was then traded for other stuff, and so forth. ergo we continually were getting value for the choi/lee trade up until last year when Arthur Rhodes walked.
May 29, 200917 yr What does he have to do to lose his spot in the lineup? Kick Fredi in the balls? What would it take to get Juan Pierre back here?
May 29, 200917 yr What does he have to do to lose his spot in the lineup? Kick Fredi in the balls? What would it take to get Juan Pierre back here? Probably and arm and a leg, especially since Pierre has a lot of money/years left on his contract that I am sure the Marlins will want the Dodgers to eat.

If I see boner written out one more time I'm going to assume I walked into the wrong forum.
May 29, 200917 yr I'm ready for Hanley to lead off... SS Hanley LF Coghlan (L) 3B Cantu 2B Uggla C Baker(L) CF Ross RF Hermida (L) 1B Helms vs LHP/Gload vs. RHP
May 29, 200917 yr I had a dream last night that the Marlins traded, Rinyel Pinto and Burke Badenhop to the Reds for Micah Owings and another player.

Yeah but for a player like D. Lee we should have got more then Hee Sop Choi, and if you keep Lee in 2004, and he has a good year, and you trade him at the deadline if your out of it, and im sure they would have got more then just Choi. And the people we got for Choi later on SUCKED anyway... We got nothing productive for Choi or Lee... And Lee until last couple of years due to injury is a very productive hitter, and is a gold glover at 1st. He is worth more then a failed prospect...
May 31, 200917 yr It's easy to say the Fish should have gotten more Lor lee except for one factor, Lee openly did not want to be here, made it abundantly clear he wasn't signing here and wasn't about to to lift a finger to in any way make moving him more equitable. This happens in baseball and sports generally frequently so it wasn't the end of the world for either side, but let's not make it seem like the FO didn't do a reasonable job under the circumstances because they did.
May 31, 200917 yr Yeah, I always thought it was an open secret that Lee wanted out of here, that he was going to demand a lot of money before arbitration, which led to the 2/3 IF signing dilemma. Lee was/is a good player, but I think some of his numbers are helped by playing in Wrigley Field. Is he considered a top 5 first baseman, I don't know.

I never once heard Lee say he wanted "out of here" where did you hear this, and better yet can you back up those claims? As for that it doesn't matter you still should get more then we got for him... He is a gold glover who just came off a fine year which he helped lead his team to a world series win! His stock was very high at that point, and we should have got more then a failed cubs prospect.
May 31, 200917 yr I know he was pissed-off back in '02 when Floyd was traded but other than that I don't remember him complaining about anything. He was eligible for arbitration and his trade was a classic salary dump.

Yeah I don't even remember them making a big deal about the Floyd trade I know some players were upset but thats normal when you see your friends on your team get dealt for cheaper parts. But a full season later they won the world series, and I highly doubt that he wanted to be traded from the team he just won a ring with! I mean if we would have kept him in 2004 who knows if he would have helped us repeat! The dismantling started in 2004... Wayne did it in an off season when he broke up the 97 team... Loria did it in the span of 2 seasons he got rid of the players slowly, and painfully will not stop. This club doesn't believe in paying players period, and this is why you will see all these talented players come, and go, and there will always be an incredible turn over of players who when they reach their arbitration year they will be traded away. Uggla, Ross, Cantu, Hermida, Nolasco, Josh Johnson, and even Hanley when the heavy part of his contract kicks in he will also be dealt. Remember the long term deal he signed I believe is back end loaded which means they get him relativly cheap this year, and next year, and then in 2011 he will see a major increase in pay. Now if this is the case expect him to be dealt in 2011.

I think its also worth noting that Choi's numbers with us were heavily influenced by an early season power surge. And after those first couple of weeks he started struggling and practically became afraid to swing, resulting in great "plate discipline" numbers but precious little actual production, which is not what you want out of your 1B with Ruthian raw power. Its no coincidence that the team traded him at the deadline or that he flamed out after his trade. It was plainly apparent that he was one of the reason's for our ineffective offense, hence the need to bundle him with an effective starter (Penny) for several offensive pieces. I agree that we could have gotten more out of that trade, as Lee was a valuable commodity who was known to be a big producer with even more upside outside of our park.
June 1, 200917 yr people need to get it through their head. whatshisfaco wont be traded, unless loria find a Van Gogh painting he likes for him.
