Let's see how Day 2 of this lineup goes.

I know everyone is thrilled Boni is not leading-off anymore but I think Boni hitting 2nd may even be worse than him leading-off because with the switch it'll lead to even fewer runners on for Hanley and Cantu. If he's in the lineup he should be hitting 8th.

Just something I found worth sharing.

 

 

Though Matt Lindstrom is frustrated with his recent outings, the run he permitted Saturday was the first allowed by him on the road this season in 11 road innings. Kiko Calero has yet to allow an earned run on the road. The Marlins bullpen has a 2.04 ERA on the road but a 6.27 ERA at home.

I rather not have Boni bat 8th because we will have two back to back easy outs.

I dislike bonifacio as much as you guys but why not give him another show at the 2 spot after what he did yesterday. Yes he probably got lucky but hey give him another shot.

Coghlan needs some sun screen on his neck. Goodness Cogs.

How do you work that one out? Coghlan/Bonifacio is no different to Bonifacio/Coghlan other than Coghlan being more patient at bat and (much) more likely to draw a walk.

 

It's a better move for two-outs. I have more faith in InheritedRunners-Pitcher-Coghlan with one out (assuming the pitcher outs) than InheritedRunners-Pitcher-Bonifacio. Strange as it may sound, Bonifacio may be a better waste out in the two spot than the eighth. InheritedRunnersOneOut-Bonifacio-Pitcher is a guaranteed zero runs (as is InheritedRunnersOneOut-Pitcher-Bonifacio) but there are more likely to be InheritedRunners (four/five to seven spots) in that situation than InheritedRunnersNoOuts-Pitcher-Coghlan-Bonifacio. I think.

 

Plus if Coghlan gets on at least Bonifacio is a reasonable bunter. Has he ever bunted into a double play? So you'd end up with either Coghlan on second, Bonifacio on first (who should then be able to Carl Crawfordize second) or for a good bunt, both of them on.

 

One thing Bonifacio surely cannot do (as has been seen) is drive in runs as his flyballs lack ... well, everything and he can't hit in anything other than a random fashion. The question is, is Bonifacio likely to get more runs to drive in in the eight spot or the two spot? Someone will no doubt drag up the stats to answer this (but it won't be me).
