June 1, 200917 yr https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=archive.table&tableId=SBJ200906010301-01 Thru May 20th games. 3.38 on Fox Sports (up 5%) 3.22 on Sun Sports (down 3%) 16th out of the 29 American-based MLB teams. This topic comes up a lot. Some claim we have this great TV audience. Others say there's no interest at all. These figures show we're average. Not bad, but not great.
June 1, 200917 yr if Loria actually lowered ticket prices to around the league average, you would see more people at the game. He overprices tickets for a team that rarely stays the same. Most people don't want to come see a team that never stays the same.
June 1, 200917 yr I thought the Miami TV market was bigger than Tampa's but looking at those numbers I guess Tampa's is bigger.
June 1, 200917 yr I wonder why Sun Sports is down while FSN is up. Does anyone know how this can be possible? Also, arent these ratings just for Miami and not the whole state of Florida.

Most people don't want to come see a team that never stays the same. Way to go talking out of your a$$! According to Team Marketing Research's 2009 Report, the Marlins ranked 26th in average ticket price for 2009. The average price of a Marlins ticket was $19.06. The 2009 league average is $26.64. To compare the trend, the average price of a Marlins ticket in 2008 was $18.69, and the league average was $25.40, putting the Marlins in 24th in average ticket prices out of 30 teams! Why not go one more year, in 2007, the Marlins ranked 26th in ticket price with an average ticket price of $16.57, and the league average back then was $22.69. That means that the Marlins have been BELOW the League average ticket price for the last three years. The increase in the average from 2008 to 2009 was . . . $0.37! If you can show me CONCRETE FACTS where Marlins tickets are "overpriced" and above the current League average, I'll take back what I said, but I highly doubt you'll come up with any credible arguments or evidence. Nice try, though, buddy, but if you're going to bash the ownership of the team come with facts next time!
June 1, 200917 yr if the marlins are gonna pay the least in the majors for their players, it should cost the least in the majors for a ticket to watch them. yep, it is a business, and Loria is stealing from all of our pockets.

Please, keep your mouth shut before you keep digging yourself a bigger "idiot hole." The difference between the Marlins and the lowest average ticket price (Arizona) is $4.45. What do you want, the Marlins to charge $1.00 for "Fish Tank", $5.00 for outfield reserve, $10.00 for lower level, $15.00 for Founders Club?

Please, keep your mouth shut before you keep digging yourself a bigger "idiot hole." fine, have fun continuing to pay for a team that doesn't give a sh*t about you. I'll watch and root, but to give my money to the owner who I feel couldn't give a sh*t about the team is just dumb. And you know you are a dick in real life when you have to result to intimidation over the internet. Congrats.

Is this the same guy who worked his ass off to get a new stadium to better accommodate US FANS? Plus, the new stadium would give him more money to raise payroll. If he really hated fans, he could've kept payroll at $21 million this season instead of raising it.

Congrats. the funny thing about this is that when you are paying for a ticket to the Marlins the majority of your money is going to Huizenga, not Loria.
June 1, 200917 yr Damn Dim, and you had been sounding so reasonable over the last few days. I can't help it, I have a strong dislike for Loria. The payroll, the trading of players constantly, I just hate the man. Add to the fact that he refuses to spend an extra $20 million on the team yet recently he spent $20 million to get his name on a building at his old art school, it makes him seem like an asshole.

Damn him, donating money to schools. But everyone, please. What came first under Loria? The super low payrolls or the low attendance? If you chose the second one, you'd be right.
June 1, 200917 yr Even if they did lower the ticket prices, I doubt someone would suddenly want to go to the Marlins game because tickets are 2 or 3 dollars cheaper. It woulnd't get many more fans to come to the games, if any.
June 1, 200917 yr From what I understand, his "donation" basically means he is telling Yale "I will raise this money through some of my own funds, but mostly contributions from many other alumni."
June 1, 200917 yr From what I understand, his "donation" basically means he is telling Yale "I will raise this money through some of my own funds, but mostly contributions from many other alumni." It's both actually both but you're more right than wrong. While making a contribution of his own he has taken on the responsibility for fund-raising the remaining $$$ needed to build the new building which far exceeds his personal gift.
June 2, 200917 yr Well, yeah. I said he's donating some of his own money, but the vast majority of it is coming from others and he is just raising the funds. There are many reasons to hate Loria, and people always bring that up and it's such a dumb one.
June 3, 200917 yr I wonder why Sun Sports is down while FSN is up. Does anyone know how this can be possible? Also, arent these ratings just for Miami and not the whole state of Florida. Yeah I'm curious about this too. Most of the games(the vast majority I think) are on SunSports. That has something to do with it.
June 3, 200917 yr Nice try, though, buddy, but if you're going to bash the ownership of the team come with facts next time! Tis the norm. When the facts don't support your point, make up your own facts. Usually no one will bother to check and definetly won't if they agree with the point being "made." I thought I had read we were near the bottom of the list for prices, so thanks for posting the numbers. I think those ratings will change once the new pond opens up. Maybe before then.

I don't watch many home games on TV, but the games I do watch are normally on FSN. Channel 654 on DirecTV.

That's what it says now, but we were higher a couple of years ago. Also, it was not just TV but radio ratings as well. What are the stats on that?
