We are pitching better now...and Nolasco is coming back Sunday.

I still don't see why this offense is so drastically worse from last year, just b/c we lost Mike Jacobs. Still trying to figure it out.

When you are giving Bonifacio the most at bats on the team, and the fact that Jacobs was a big home run guy with a better OBP than our current leadoff/#2 hitter, yet Jacobs will have around 80 more RBI's and 30+ more home runs than somebody, you should've known we were going to miss his limited, but still somewhat good production.

Plain and simple, Uggla isn't the Uggla we saw 1st half last year, Cantu is getting better, but not on the hot streak we saw last season, Cody is streaky as he always is, Baker isn't getting enough starts or being utilized in the best way possible, Maybin, the guy who was supposed to boost this team, is in AAA, and Coghlan hasn't exactly lit things up either, with Hermida being a good OBP guy but overall average with the bat.

So yeah, its reasonable to think we aren't doing as good as last year.

Really? All I see is the same two people continuing to pitch well, with the rest of the staff failing to be consistent.

Sean West has done well in his 3 starts, Andrew Miller, no matter how bad he may seem, only has a 4.76 ERA, but that 1.67 WHIP needs to go. And like they stated earlier in today's telecast, the marlins have the best starting pitching ERA since May 25th I believe at 2.77,

3 of Miller's last 4 starts have been good enough, and the same can be said for 2 of West' 3 starts, keeping the team in the ballgame. Combine that with 2 great starts in AAA for Nolasco (c'mon, we all know Nolasco is more than capable of a lot better)...there are some reasons for optimism, especially considering the consistency from JJ & Volstad.

I just think they're having trouble putting it together. First, it was Uggla & Cody struggling. Now, Cantu and Baker. Hermida has provided less pop than expected, as well.

At the end of the day, it seems like we have 1 consistent hitter. Hanley Ramirez.

West did well in his first two starts, but still needs to cut down on the walks, Miller has barely shown any improvement with his control issues this season, and Anibal didnt look that great in is first start back.

Volstad and Johnson have been carrying this pitching staff. With the way this offense has looked lately, we are going to need more than that.

Tommy said since may 24th our starters have the lowest era in the majors. Pretty good if I do say so.

If we could soMe how trade for another consistent bat we'd be in business.

7-5 in our last 12 is at least a step in the right direction. It is frustrating to lose games like last night's 2-1, especially when we had ample opportunity to win. If we can somehow get some good form going in June then I reckon we can close the gap on the Phillies as they have a tough schedule just like us and are maybe due to have a drop off in form.

While I'm encouraged that Miller seems to be putting it together, I would hardly put "only" and "4.75 ERA" together. That means we basically have to score 5 runs in every game he starts in order to win, and when our offense strands 12 runners and lose a 1 run game, that's not going to happen.

The offense was just as putrid in the second half of last year.

The Marlins have a line up of all or nothing...been like this for a while.

Last year team OPSed .755 after the all-star game. This year's team is OPSing .707.

We have 5 of the worst 24 OPS in the NL (Fredo, Maybin, Boni, Helms and Coghlan).

--- minimum 75 PAs

The Marlins are still getting all of the strikeouts with Bonifacio that they got with Jacobs, but without the ability to hit a HR. The starting rotation could fall into place if Ricky pitches better, ny biggest concern is the overuse of the bullpen much like last season were they paid the price in August.

3 reasons: Maybin, Bonifacio and Coghlan. It's not hard to figure out.

Last year, we had the likes of Matt Treanor and Alfredo Amezaga starting for awhile, and it never seemed to be this bad. You guys are right though...the offense wasn't good the 2nd half of last year.

So basically we've all came to the similar conclusion that this lineup will probably continue to struggle. While there are possibilities for improvement (Gaby Sanchez, Maybin IMO), the current lineup we have will struggle all year. After all, we all agree that this lineup was pretty bad in the 2nd half of 2008 and now we have less now than we did then. We have two starters that we can count on all year as long as they are healthy. We still all have hope in Nolasco, although that hope may be bleak. Miller is "ok" and "improving," but we still need him to be much better. And hopefully with West/Sanchez we can develop at least a decent 5th starter. Bottom line: we've got to make a trade and get a more consistent hitter in the lineup. I'm sure doing that would also help Hanley out too. If it means trading Hermida/Uggla/Ross/Bonifacio/Coghlan then so be it, although if we trade someone it will probably be Uggla or Hermida. I think the front office will, sooner or later, make a move. How good the move will be...that's another thing.
