June 9, 200917 yr The Marlins starting pitchers have been getting into form. They have been getting deeper into games and taking a load off the bullpens shoulders. How far do you think they can take us?
June 9, 200917 yr they can take us far, but without an offense it isn't that far. I personally think it won't be enough, but hey with the Mets suffering from injuries, and the NL West being as weak as ever, with the only real wild card teams that are a HUGE worry being the Brewers/Cubs/Cards, with one of them winning the division, I think there obviously is still a chance, but changes will need to be made. I think we all know what those changes are, but I don't think the front office will ever get the message.
June 9, 200917 yr Author in case anyone is interested heres a story on the starting pitchers Marlins Starting Pitchers Stablelizing
June 9, 200917 yr I still would be a lot more confident if Nolasco returned to form. Maybe it's just me, but I'm still not 100% comfy with Miller & West. A bit unfair considering how they've pitched lately, but it's not exactly a great enough sample yet. Nolasco had a great YEAR last year. I still believe he can return to form...if anything, he can be a lot better than his current #'s, which would definitely be a boost. Regardless, the SP has been very good since the end of May (I believe it was Tommy Hutton who said we have the best SP ERA, since May 24th, or something like that).
June 9, 200917 yr Author I don't expect anymore from West than what he's giving, for now at least. He is doing a great job. He does have a no hitter going into to the sixth tonight.
June 9, 200917 yr Author What happens when Anibal gets healthy and West is performing? What if he is 7-2 at the time? Are we going to just sit him down or put Anibal on the back burner?
June 9, 200917 yr oh its not even a question. West stays in the rotation. It would be totally wrong to send West down, and Anibal still isn't the Anibal of 2006, never will be.
June 9, 200917 yr Author It shouldn't even be a question to bring back Anibal until after the All-Star break. They rushed him back once I hope they don't do it again.

June 9, 200917 yr Go with who's hot...at the moment, it's West. I truely feel like every spot should be up for grabs all the time. You play the best at that particular time.
June 9, 200917 yr Right now with the way west is pitching he better stay in the rotation unless its a CY winner taking his spot. Anibal has really gotten on my nervous as of late.
June 9, 200917 yr i'm really surprised at how well west is doing - i didn't think he was ready for the bigs, despite loving him as a prospect still remember the AFL young star game this past year - in his one inning he walked 3, struck out 3 and then decided to step out of the dugout for a curtain call ......... seems to be a pretty cocky kid who wants things to go perfect (see him smacking himself in the helmet after blowing that bunt) however, he rebounded well from his last start and has kept his control pretty decent i say unless it starts falling apart hard, let him figure it out in the majors - right now there aren't any better options and he seems to be mentally tough enough to do it
June 9, 200917 yr I agree with Erick. I'm still not sold on West and Miller. I would feel alot more confident If Nolasco goes back to his 2008 form.
June 9, 200917 yr Author I agree with Erick. I'm still not sold on West and Miller. I would feel alot more confident If Nolasco goes back to his 2008 form. I'm not sold on the Nolasco of 2008. He only pitched 5 games in 07 and went 11-11 in 06. I would like to see some consistency. He's not showing it this year.

He only pitched 5 games in 07 and went 11-11 in 06. I would like to see some consistency. He's not showing it this year. He was f*cking great in 2008. He had the second lowest WHIP behind Worldseries MVP Cole Hamels. He pitched 200+ innings. He struck out 186 batters and only walked 42 batters. He had a 3.52 ERA. That's not the crazy part, though. He was ASS in April. After that, he DOMINATED! He got better every month. Last year was not a fluke my friend. He was dominated, and he can still be dominate.
June 9, 200917 yr I trust in West. I believed that he was rushed, but the fact that he has limited his walk total, which was a big thing with him, add to the fact that he has shown poise that I haven't seen a minor league callup for this team since Volstad was called up, and I believe he is going to be a permanent fixture in this rotation. I wasn't sold on Nolasco back in October, you can find old posts of me and a few others debating about the JJ vs Nolasco argument. I'm rooting for Ricky to get back to his old self, but again I would like consistancy with him. I've seen too many pitchers have great seasons then fade off into oblivion.

June 9, 200917 yr Starters looking very good recently. I especially hope Andrew Miller can keep it up. However, let's keep this in perspective- we played the Giants (horrible lineup) and Mets (without Delgado and Beltran). Let's keep it up vs. the Cards.

One good year
June 9, 200917 yr If everyone is still pitching solid by the time Anibal is back, there is no way anybody gets bumped. I say Anibal to the pen. His shoulder hasn't held up starting for anything close to a full season and it's time to try something different. We can't keep having him pitch for a month ineffectively and then DL, then come back and do the same. He hasn't done anything since his rookie year when healthy anyway but his stuff might work in the bullpen.

One good year Carl Pavano was 29 years old when he had that amazing year. Ricky Nolasco was 25 last year.
June 9, 200917 yr Maybe it's just me, but I'm still not 100% comfy with Miller & West. A bit unfair considering how they've pitched lately, but it's not exactly a great enough sample yet. Same here. And to a lesser extent, Nolasco and Volstad. True that Nolasco and Volstad had outstanding seasons last year, but they are still young, and as we have seen with Nolasco, things aren't predictable year to year. I don't think Volstad is going to turn to trash anytime soon, but above all, I want to see consistancy in all our starters, so that we at least know what to reasonably expect, be it a 2.50 ERA or 5.00 ERA.
