June 11, 200917 yr I actually don't understand why the NL lets the pitcher hit. It's the only league that does it. The pitcher doesn't hit in college...or in the minors. Heck, from what I remember when my brother played, pitchers didn't hit in high school, either. They do in the minors
June 11, 200917 yr Even with the DH rule we'd be bad with Bonifacio batting 1st and the way some of our pitchers are pitching. The AL is a more competitive league and we wouldn't be able to hang for 182 games with the lack of consistency on the team. 162

Yea, it's your choice to use the DH, but most Varsity Pitchers are only pitchers at that point of there careers but there are plenty of exceptions.

The DH rule sucks! Pitchers should hit! Please see Zambrano, Livan Hernandez, Rick Ankiel, these guys are TRUE baseball players..

Replace his name with guys like Hampton, Marquis and Willis. I do agree with you though i do not like the DH rule.

I do agree with you though i do not like the DH rule. in 2000, his only true season pitching, he had a 3.50 ERA in 175 IP, with only a 1.3 WHIP and a very good 194 K's to 90 BB's you are simply wrong when it comes to Ankiel. He just simply lost it after that playoff game where he had the record wild pitches. He just couldn't come back from that. But that didn't make him a bad pitcher.

I meant to add an anymore after the he can't pitch for his life. But i honestly never thought a pitcher can go from good to bad like him, it kind of reminds me of Dontrelle's current struggles.

Yep Doens't change the fact that pitchers can still hit in the minors though.
June 11, 200917 yr I wouldn't like it - I prefer the NL style and like our current division let's not provide MLB with any ideas of doing something like swapping out FLA for BAL Braves aside, that would put 4 NL East teams within about 4-5 hours of driving, easy train service, etc they could try to build a marlins/rays rivalry while still focusing on boston/ny

Heck, from what I remember when my brother played, pitchers didn't hit in high school, either. Those leagues are development leagues. The DH allows the teams to get another guy some at bats. What I don't understand is that the AL claims to be the better league, but it does not challenge its so-called better players to play any part on defense. They provide an outlet to otherwise average players to become super stars by performing extraordinary well at half of their jobs. The beauty of baseball is its strategy. The DH allows AL teams to hide players' weaknesses as to appear more versatile and to adjust to strategies and counter strategies. NL teams don't have that luxury. If they want 5 corner infielder / outfielder's bats in the lineup, they need to play one of them at 2B/SS/CF/C. Teams make such decisions in advance (years even with development) to craft the appropriate roster. The DH doesn't just remove strategy from games, but it also erodes the need to sign, acquire and develop your roster.

June 11, 200917 yr I got the answer! If we were in the AL, Fredi Gonzalez' job would be easier. Then again, the team would be worse...so I don't know which Fredi prefers.
