Posted June 22, 200915 yr There's no rumors floating around or even speculation right now that this may even have the ability to happen. I was just wondering to myself after seeing a picture of Freddy Sanchez on MLB.com if the Pirates would have the guts to send him packing this year, just as they did with McClouth, for a few prospects. The Marlin's farm system is top 5 in the league, we need a third baseman which is a position Freddy can play, and he's relatively cheap (im pretty sure he still has arbitration years left). Anyone think the front office would make such a bold move or could pry him away from the Pirates? Maybe for a package of Ryan Tucker, Aaron Thompson and a B level position player not named Morrison, Stanton or Maybin? God knows the Pirates need pitchin.

He will make $3 million the second half of the season, with an additional $600k buyout after the season. If he gets to 635 PA, he has an option become guaranteed at $8 million for 2010. That's not going to work financially. And trade value speaking, they'd need a bit more than Tucker and Thompson. He has an .850 OPS and is relatively cheap for the big market teams. They'd want a West, Dominguez, or Skipworth for sure.
June 22, 200915 yr Author Damn, shot me down with one post lol. I guess I missed he wasn't arbitration eligible anymore. And your probably right with the prospects.
June 22, 200915 yr Well, you're probably right to assume they'll send him packing though, just not to us
June 22, 200915 yr Or What about Andy LaRoche? They just called up Alvarez to AA. He'll probably be a June call up next season. That gives them 1 too many 3bs. Don't know if the plan is to move one to 1b though since Adam LaRoche won't be there next year (who is also a somewhat interesting candidate for us) Also Andy would be a lot more of a long term fix, because he is not doing that great at the moment. .281/.352/.390/.742...that ISO has to rise eventually

Throw in Doumit, McCutcheon, Pearce, Morgan is a cool 4th OF, eventually Tabata, starting to look pretty decent in Pitt. Just need arms. I'd imagine Adam LaRoche, Sanchez, and Wilson are all available for pitching prospects. Other LaRoche works to, as I am not afraid of shifting Cantu back to 3B 5 games a week. Same deal though, makes $3.5 the second half of the year and will command a good SP prospect. Not sure if that's in the Marlins best interest though. LaRoche is prob a Type A too.

LaRoche on the corners... considering Andy was the "centerpiece" of last year's Bay trade... they'd be hard-pressed to immediately spin him off, unless they're wowed

Could be looking at Pearce at 1b though, he's a bad defensive OFer. But I mean, yeah, that's not something pit has to worry about for atleast another year so unlikely they would deal Andy now. Nick Johnson is easily my #1 wish list but several enough interesting names out there. I believe I said it before but if the Delcarmen for Johnson rumor is true, I really really hope we entertain them a package around Tucker.

NJ makes $2.75 for the half season, and is a FA. Plus is a perpetual injury risk to keep his asking price down. Nat's would have no problem trading intra-division for a loaner and to poach some relievers from AAA. Let's take back Hammer too while we're at it. I miss him.

I don't know much about Atlanta's propsects, but was anyone really wowed with the 3 players the Braves sent for McClouth...? Did the Braves really give up any of their future in that deal? I'm just saying maybe the Marlins can trade with Pittsburgh without giving away a lot
June 23, 200915 yr I'd like to have both Laroche brothers. Trade them Emilio, Tucker, Thompson, and whoever else they want for them.
