July 2, 200917 yr It could help or it might not. It's not like he's flailing blindly at the ball, his bb and k rates are about the same as for the season, aren't they (on my phone can't be bothered to check again...) 37 BB/60 SO He's on pace to Strikeout at least 100 times
July 2, 200917 yr But It can help him. That's the whole point. It's not because he's in a slump. He has 3 hits since June 14. 3 hits. All I did was agree with Marlins2003 that sending him down to the Minors wouldn't hurt. You're not making any sense. 3 hits since June 14th (a sample of 36 official AB's) is a slump. If you're not sending him down b/c of that, why are you sending him down then now? And check out Nolasco's #'s when he went down to the minors. Hermida struggling for 36 AB's doesn't = allowing over a run per inning through 9 starts. That's a horrible comparison, and for some reason, it's been brought up by more than 1 person in this thread.
July 2, 200917 yr With Hermida now platooning RF, I just hope that he wants to prove that he deserves to be out there every night and get some hits. Lately he hasn't looked too comfortable batting. But I don't think sending him to the minors is the answer either.

Sorry, I worded that wrong. He is in a slump, but that't not the only reason to send him down. For the past two months, he hasn't realy figured it out, with the exception of one great stretch. He isn't playing real good right now. Sending him down wouldn't be the worst Idea.
July 2, 200917 yr What I did was ask if he was optionable, but it was in the context of a short respite to get his game together ala Ricky Nolasco. I've rooted for Hermida all season, admittedly because I thought he was a good trade candidate if he put up strong numbers in the first half of the season. You root for players for whatever reason you do and I'll do the same, I thought the biggest contribution to the Marlins he could make in 2009 was the talent he brought back to the team in a trade. He didn't live up to expectations and if anything, with his salary and promise of more in 2010, he's worth less. I think we're probably stuck with him (a phrase some here will be offended by) for a while unless he's packaged with appetizing prospects or the Marlins are willing to take less than most here think he's worth because the roster spot becomes more valuable as the season goes on. I know for the Bonifacio haters, especially those who are clinging to Hermida's "potential" and the belief he will eventually start tearing up the league, hearing numerous sources talking about trading Hermida is frustrating while the Bonifacio storyline is "he's not going anywhere". I would be too if I was in the pro-Hermida camp but life isn't always fair. The truth is I think both get replaced at their current positions by the end of the trade deadline.

July 2, 200917 yr The another thing different about Hermida this season is that he isn't hitting the ball well on the road. He may have more RBI's on the road but his BA OBP and SLG% are higher at home which is not the greatest ball park for lefties to hit in. 2009 Home .289/.360/.407 .767 OPS Away .213/.342/.361 .703 OPS 2008 Home .203/.273/.312 .584 OPS Away .288/.364/.487 .851 OPS
July 2, 200917 yr hmmmmmm.......seems like not that long ago I was vilified for saying Hermida sucks and carroll should be starting.......Lets fast forward about 3 weeks or so and what do you know, they are now platooning (which by the way indicates the fact that Hermida sucks) and Caroll is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy outplaying that scrub Hermida. Gonna have to say I look like the early winner on that one. Score: jerus9703 and the rest of the Hermida realists- 1 All of you bias marlin fans who cant objectively analyze marlins players (Hermida supporters)- 0 So, you've been on this board since July 24 2007. You only have 137 posts, and I'm guessins 136 of them are Hermida Sucks posts. Yea, you're like must be great. Searching the forums, looking for every opportunity to talk sh!t about Hermida. oooooo, exciting life. Miller23: 1, jerus9703:0. BTW, you will never win. People like you never win. I still think Hermida is mediocre at best. I still feel Hermida is a 25 year old outfielder with potential to be very good. your an idiot then because hermida is not that good i am sorry. He runs like a penguin out there and he is so in consistent. I cant handle his inconsistency anymore.

We all know he's bad defensively, but he can be great offensively. He did it in 2007, there is no reason why he can't do it again.
July 2, 200917 yr My dream is that when we trade Hermida to a team and he starts playing in hitter friendly ballparks like Yankee Stadium, Fenway, Coors Field, Chase Field etc. that he becomes an All Star and all you people start saying we should have never traded him blah blah blah.
