September 9, 200917 yr The Marlins need to likely go at least 18-7 in these last 25 games, which would also need to include at least a 4-2 edge in the 6 games against Philly. This would at least put the pressure on Philly to go at least 11-10 in their remaining games not against the Marlins. You can never count on the team you're chasing to choke and play losing baseball in the final month, though Philly does have some history in the choking department. Or they control their own destiny with the Phillies. I think the proper mindset would be to take all 6, regardless of how hard that is. Problem is, some players aren't even thinking that way. http://www.marlinsbaseball.com/forums/topic/90723-donnelly-thinks-the-team-has-a-better-chance-at-the-wildcard/

I can't disagree with that thought....but as a player you have to play it 1 game at a time. For all of the next 25 games. Set a goal of 18-7. Win tonite. Then it's 17-7. Lose tonite, and it's 18-6. I think that's the way most players approach it. It puts more urgency on every game when you have the thought that you only have 7 losses left to give...6 if you lose tonite, and so on.
September 9, 200917 yr I think we should realistically hope for ten games or more over.500 and second place in the national league east.

Play 1 game at a time. I really hope they are not planning any losses. They shouldn't be wanting to finish the season 18-7. If anything, their plan should be 25-0. I'm against planning that kinda stuff. It can screw with their head and put pressure on them. Something that can make them fold easy. It's so damn cliche and obviously not going to happen, 25-0, but the idea is that they shouldn't be accepting of any losses... if it so happens then they can move on and not live in the past. But it should be xx-0 from here on out.

The last thing they should be doing is counting their games. and btw, he's wrong lol. You've got... what... 5GB Wild Card... and 6GB Division (+2 games played)? So... 5 games back... 0 GR versus those above you... or... 6 games back... 6 games versus those above you. I've gotta say... congrats Brendan Donnelly for that.

If you're a player, I'd guess you'd be more excited for the division, at this point.

September 11, 200917 yr Just thought I'd mention, now we are REALLY in control of our destiny, 6 losses back of the phillies with 6 games left to play them. Though, I do hope we get even closer before our games with them.

Though, I do hope we get even closer before our games with them. Definitely. On paper we hold our own destiny. As players they should plan to win them all. As fans we should know that winning all 6 is not a huge chance. 5-1 would even be very nice, assuming the Phillies lose like 5 or 6 of their own.
September 11, 200917 yr If it's destiny then it's out of your control. Thank you, Jammer. I've always cringed at that expression.
September 11, 200917 yr I think we should realistically hope for ten games or more over.500 and second place in the national league east. Honestly, if we end up in 2nd, fine. But If we go .500 with our schedule to finish the rest of the season, I would be extremely disappointed. We are better then that.
September 11, 200917 yr The main thing which makes it even more difficult to sweep the Philles 6-0 in the rest of the season is the fact we have a doubleheader against them one day, and as we all know its really hard to win both games in a day.
