The Marlins still control their destiny

Featured Replies

The Phillies lost their 4th game in a row today, meaning the Marlins sit 6 games behind the Phillies. And, as it turns out, the Marlins play the Phillies 6 more times this year.

While the Marlins' position may not be the best, they do control their own destiny.

At this point, they might have a better chance of catching the Phillies than the Rockies, but that is not saying much.

7 games back in the loss column.

Unfortunate...Hopefully the Mets have a good 4 game series this week...

I've been saying this for a while now (on the Panthers msg boards).

The Wild Card might be closer, but our chances are higher chasing Philly.

I'm starting to agree. Colorado and SF together will be too much to pass. We really need to focus more on the division and play our hearts out against the Phillies when the time comes.

Our best bet I think is against the Phillies. If we can get within 3 before we play them next, that would be great. That St. Louis series is going to be brutal.

A team holding down their division with ease (11.5 games) versus a team holding on to all they've got left. I mean, I know it's not like they are going to give us the wins, but I think we will be (should be) playing St. Louis with much more of a reason than they play us.

I fear the Mets retribution for our upsetting of them the past years. Lol.

I agree with you I think it might be a good barometer for us also. I'm not to worried about the Mets. I know they want to get us back but that starting rotation has been less then spectacular. Considering this is the Marlins, someone will probably get a no-hitter. I also wonder if the Phillies will run Moyer out there during that doubleheader. Something tells me yes.

Depends on who is scheduled to start.

Hasn't Moyer been thrown to the bullpen after Pedro showed up?

That would be freaking awesome if we beat Moyer to win the division. That would almost be as good as winning another WS.

I think it was last series when Moyer was not scheduled to play in the series but the Phils moved their rotation around just so that Moyer could get fried fish.

Say what you want but the Rockies have to face Sf a few more times along with Dodgers and Stl they have a way harder schedule than us. The phillies on the other hand have an easier schedule than us. Philly only tough opponent left is us and Atl

If we are due to face both Carpenter and Wainwright then we are in severe trouble.

To those talking about Moyer - he started yesterday because Happ was scratched with an oblique injury.

I do believe JJ will be matched with Carpenter if I'm not mistaken... though I could have that off by a few, pretty much just figured that in my head. If so, we shouldn't have to really worry about Carpenter but rather hope that we can get a run or 2 off of him and hope that JJ goes 7 innings.

The Marlins need to likely go at least 18-7 in these last 25 games, which would also need to include at least a 4-2 edge in the 6 games against Philly. This would at least put the pressure on Philly to go at least 11-10 in their remaining games not against the Marlins. You can never count on the team you're chasing to choke and play losing baseball in the final month, though Philly does have some history in the choking department.

Or they control their own destiny with the Phillies. I think the proper mindset would be to take all 6, regardless of how hard that is.
