Marlins Interested In Jamey Carroll

Featured Replies

According to Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com (via Twitter), the Marlins have some amount of interest in free-agent infielder Jamey Carroll.

Gonzalez spoke Wednesday with Carroll's agent, Jonathan Maurer, who said the Marlins are pursuing the 35-year-old infielder, but not as aggressively as some other teams. According to Maurer, 10 other clubs have expressed interest in Carroll, who hit .276/.355/.340 in 2009 and played solid defense at three different spots on the Cleveland infield.

So far we've seen the Phillies, Nationals, Dodgers and A's linked to Carroll in some way this offseason.

He would be a great fit to fill in the Alfredo Amezaga role. This pretty much shows me the Marlins are really counting on Emilio to earn a starting spot.

He's a pretty damn good utility infielder if they really want to get bonifacio in the lineup and if they could get him fro around 1 mill

Alden's tweet really doesn't use the word "pursuing" at all unless there's a new one up, rather he didn't get stronger than "interest" which to me is way way way down the scale from the word used on MLBTR and now Roto.

Plus the source is the guy's agent. I'd wait before jumping to conclusions on this one. Either that or make sure you have an eraser handy when filling out your *hotstove* scorecard.

This offseason could suck...

Why? For the first time in forever we don't have the stadium issue hanging over our heads. That alone will make this a great offseason.

Because we are being linked with trying to sign guys like Jamey Carroll so early in the offseason. He is the sorta guy you sign during Spring Training when decent players have been snapped up for months. The reason I say it sucks is merely the thought of Uggla's at-bats being replaced by a combo of Bonifacio/a guy like Carroll, it is a bit depressing.

Hahaha. Seriously, though, it summarizes my feelings about the prospect of them signing Jamey Carroll and giving him extended playing time, or at least using him as a utility man and giving EB more playing time.

I like it when Admin posts more.
