As a Marlins fan, (and a 22 year-old "Punk" for lack of a better term) I love to research the history of teams and the Stadiums they once occupied.

With that said, I would love to see an effort made to bring "Simply Orange" into the circle of sponsors the Florida Marlins have.

I feel that a Partnership with Simply Orange provides multiple points of interest to the team. A Florida owned company, selling off one of Florida's Biggest exports while still being Nationally Known. Especially if Mr. Loria looks to the future and wants to rework the look of the team from Teal and Black based to Orange and Black.

Beyond that, Simply Orange can provide one big positive:

The "Simply Orange" Bowl. It would be the perfect nod to the historical significance of the original Orange Bowl while still bringing in Stadium Naming Rights dollars.

P.S. No, I do not work for simply orange, I actually thought of the idea over breakfast this morning. Random, I know--but it's the offseason.

1) Do they have the funds to do something like that? They don't seem big enough to have the luxury of naming rights to a professional sports stadium. I know you're just toying around with ideas for a sponsor, but you have to consider if the company would be willing and able to do it, and in this case I don't think they are.

2) I'm a big proponent of the Marlins having absolutely no affiliation with the word "orange".

Actually, they are owned by Minute Maid and Coca-Cola after doing a little digging around. But then again, I should have just read my own wikipedia link instead of just including it for those curious. (I spent about 15 mins, but I could have spent 1).

I figure if they include orange (i don't want it), atleast give it some historical significance to the stadium land and the stadium they tore down to build it.

you have to figure a cruise line, Bacardi, Burger King, or Office Depot have to be the front runners--if its a local company.

The color orange should be banned from there except when referring to the Orange Bowl.

Who is that chick in your avatar, she's hot.

BK would be my pick, but Bacardi is cool too.

Personal opinions though, based on my fastfood and binge drinking lifestyle.

I have no idea, I tried to find her name and I never can. The closest I got was that it was part of a man-show skit, but never confirmed.

dgreco- I'd always assumed inevitably the most logical sponsor would be Bacardi that I never thought of BK. Actually, BK makes more sense because it's more fmaily-friendly and they could have tons of kiosks inside the park to bring in additional reveue.

Don't think Simply Orange is a possibility because of Tropicana Field in St. Pete.

I suspect it would go to the highest bidder.

Simply Orange is Coca-Cola/Minute Maid. They already sponsor Houston's ballpark. If you're gonna go juice, go Florida's Natural, the Florida orange co-op. Then again, don't, the Rays are already sponsored by Tropicana, we don't need both Florida teams sponsored by orange juice companies.

We need something local. Burger King, Carnival or Royal Caribbean (maybe not...if things suck, it'll get called the failboat :mischief), Tiger Direct/CompUSA, Alienware/Dell, BrightStar...

perry ellis could also be a sponsor

I suspect it would go to the highest bidder.

Yep. And that also means it dosen't have to be a local headquartered company. We probably won't hear anything until after the 2011 season. And, quite honestly, I really don't care.

Here's something to think about. The structure could have one sponsor and the actual field another. 2 different names. Not exactly unprecedented, although maybe with a slight twist. Think Mall Of America Field at HHH Metrodome.

Nothing would surprise me.

Please don't encourage them.

Don't look at it in a bad way. The city could say they want to name the structure (structures if you include the parking garages) with something concerning the history of the OB and the team sells the rights to naming the playing field. I mean, I really doubt HHH came back to life long enough to give the good folks of Minn $$$ to name that place after him.

There's all kinds of possibilities. This is just another avenue I thought of that hasn't been mentioned. And in all seriousness, what difference does it make anyways. Does anybody really think that after the "new ballpark smell" wears off, the common excuse for not going to games will be because of the name? Folks had the perfect opportunity to use that one when Joe Robbie was named for a defunct underware company and I never heard it used. I heard some pretty silly/lame excuses, but never that one.

if at the end of the day... the naming rights does NOT go to either Bacardi or Burger King... I will be EXTREMELY surprised.

Why don't they sell naming rights to the dugouts and bases too while there at it.

"Hanley slides into Bacardi 2nd base with is 25th double of the year." :bangdesk

What about the talk of having the players dress like race car drivers(ads all over their uniforms)? Where do you guys draw the line if anywhere?

I draw it right about there. Have ads on the outfield wall, in and around the ballpark and have a naming sponsor and that's fine. It is a business.

I'm glad baseball(and all the other 4 major sports) have kept sponsors off the uniforms. I'm used to it with soccer but baseball, football, basketball and hockey jerseys just look wrong with sponsors on them.

As for the stadium itself, of all the potential local sponsors my hope is that it ends up being Carnival. Carnival Field or Ballpark sounds okay. Bacardi wouldn't be bad either. Burger King would suck, but calling the place "The Whopper" would be kinda cool lol.

Whatever it ends up being I hope it sticks, unlike Joe Robbie/Pro Player/Dolphins/Dolphin/Land Shark/Dolphin/Sun Life Stadium.

Why do you need to take it to the extreme? Where are you finding any precedence for this? Do they name the yard markers in Minn for sponsors?

I just put out a thought of what could happen and gave an example of it being done before. Not saying it will, or that I agree with it. Just putting it out there because it hasn't been mentioned before on these boards. If you feel the need to bash, show something that supports the tantrum.

I would think the deal would have a minimum amount of years involved. Maybe even having learned from Huizenga and company's mistake of not fully checking out the financials of the company involved. Remember, Pro Player went down the tubes not long after that deal was signed. Land Shark? It seems like that deal happened just to help the new owner with some $$$ for the restorations taking place right now. And Land Shark did it just for the short term exposure of a new product in a very competitive market. Worked for both sides.

I thought I read somewhere that stadiums couldn't be named after hard alcohol brands... I tried googling it but I couldn't find anything to support that. Does anybody know if it's true?

I'm asking this because I was wondering if Bacardi could actually buy the naming rights for the stadium.

I was just trying to show you the slippery slope that you were going down. (Structure, field, dugouts, bases. uniforms)

That's a good question. As far as I know the only US stadiums/ballparks/arenas named after even just a beer brand have only been Busch, Land Shark and what would have been Labatt Park in Montréal if Loria got the public money he wanted to build that stadium. If it's not flat out banned, I would guess that it's seriously frowned upon based on the history, or lack thereof, of sports venues and alcohol sponsorships.
