I have no issues with Gaby, I just see Morrison has a brighter future overall. I actually wanted to see Gaby start last season at 1B, and so did many people on this site back in February and beyond, so we haven't been all "bias" as you say (which in effect makes no sense since we are fans of the Marlins and want to see every player succeed).

 

The difference is Morrison has progressed. If he has a AWESOME spring training, I fully expect him to be our starting first baseman come April. If he's average, we can keep him in AA, then give him the Coghlan treatment. He's coming off a wrist injury, so I have no issue with keeping him down and seeing if he can maintain the production he showed before his injury (which I would like to see about 2 walks a game in AA).

 

But if Morrison is ready, there should be no reason to prolong his development. Morrison is the future, Sanchez is a very nice player, but he is a stopgate until Morrison is ready, and there is no reason to start Sanchez is Morrison is truely ready to contribute at the major league level.

 

 

why would you discard Gaby that has better # than Logan and what # did he have before or after High A ball and by the way Gaby also had injury's and it did not stop him from putting up good # I think Gaby is the future and Logan will play somewhere else.

A 25 year old in AA is most likely going to have better numbers than a 22 year old in AA. That doesn't make Sanchez better than Morrison

Gaby Sanchez is probably the 1B of the near future. He's a very good bench guy of the future.

Those are pretty kind words, considering that Morrison will probably never be more than than. I'd say that, when you factor in lack of genuine power, Gaby probably won't even be middle tier at such an offensive position. It may be that he could be a middle tier major league bat, but first base is frequently where the best offensive players on the field are.

Do you HAVE to give Morrison the first chance? Arbitration clock is huge. Is Logan Morrison better than Matt Wieters or David Price? They were much more ready at this point of their careers than Logan, and they had to "endure" 2 months of AAA.

 

It's going to be good for Logan to get a real taste of spring training and then go to AAA and play everyday in a low pressure environment. He's still coming off an injury. Let's not rush him like we did with Hermida. He'll probably get eaten alive by lefties. Development matters. It's not like we're struggling for production. We have legitimate potential bats with Gaby and Jimenez, and if they stink, we're back to "Plan A" with Morrison in June. Except now his confidence is way up for mashing AAA.
