January 26, 201016 yr Here's the quote from Ankiel: "At first, it seemed like there was tons of interest everywhere. Toward the end, it was the Marlins, Washington, Yankees and here," he said. http://www.brownsvil...-add-lewis.html
January 26, 201016 yr If he signed with the Marlins, I'd assume that would mean either 1. Uggla gets traded despite mention of him being safe for this offseason 2. The Front Office doesn't have as much faith in Cameron Maybin as we originally thought 3. The team was looking to simply add depth to an outfield that has lost Hermida, Amezaga, and only has 2 true outfielders. Number 3 seems the most likely. My guess is Ankiel would've been the safety net in case Maybin didn't produce again to begin the year. But, at this point all that doesn't matter.
January 26, 201016 yr I assume he'd have taken Gload's roll. We payed Luis Gonzalez nearly 3 million to do it a couple years ago, not much less than Ankiel is making the first year in KC.
January 26, 201016 yr I'm not a big fan of Ankiel. But I do hope the Marlins are looking at some of the free agents that are left because teams are getting deals all over the place with spring training right around the corner.
January 27, 201016 yr Would have loved to have him here... maybe not at that price tag, but he's an incredible athlete. Like Brett Carrol, except Ankiel brings his bat to the ballpark...
January 27, 201016 yr Not really. If you throw Ankiel anything but a fastball he looks ridiculous trying to hit it. Literally.
January 27, 201016 yr Maybe we were going to bring him in to convert him back into a pitcher for the BP. He could have been like Dontrelle often was, on his off-days, he could have been available to pinch hit!
January 27, 201016 yr I assume he'd have taken Gload's roll. We payed Luis Gonzalez nearly 3 million to do it a couple years ago, not much less than Ankiel is making the first year in KC. Remember that at least half of Gonzo's salary was compensation for baby-sitting.
