The Mets have designated first baseman Mike Jacobs for assignment to make room for Tobi Stoner, tweets ESPN New York's Adam Rubin.

Jacobs, 29, signed a minor league contract this offseason after being non-tendered by the Royals following a disappointing 2009 campaign. The lefty slugger clubbed 32 home runs for the Marlins in 2008, which prompted the Royals to acquire him in exchange for Leo Nunez. Jacobs' problem throughout his career has always been his lack of discipline. He's failed to post an OBP above .300 since 2007, which has led to a career OPS of just .787 in spite of a career average of 29 HR per 162 games and a .475 slugging percentage.

Should we pick him up? Lol

Ummm...how about no...

I guess now we know who won that trade. Leo Nunes going for an all-star season!

I'd pick him up and send his ass to the minors praying that he gets into a grove and then we call him up to our bench in case of emergency.

No thanks. The only possible way he'd be on this team is if you'd take him over Mike Lamb, and all things considered, I'd rather have Mike Lamb...

Even with his terrible K/BB ratio and average fielding ability, I'd rather have Jacobs over Lamb if we ever had to put them to start games on a frequent basis. (Once every two weeks)

It all depends what you're looking for. Jake would give us power off the bench. Lamb provides more versatility, and gets on base more than Jacobs, of course. Overall, I don't see how it improves the team, much. I guess it would be worth a try, though; not as if we have much to lose by signing Jacobs.

Exactly my point, not much to lose might as well give it a shot if Lamb doesn't really pan out and he's another option we have if we want to keep Logan in the minors a bit longer.

Jacobs won't be replacing Mike Lamb. Lamb can at least play third, which gives us options. I don't see this team carrying another pure first basemen on the roster, especially one with atrocious defense who strikes out too much to be useful in a PH role.

I was just kidding about picking him up really....

But what about his spiky hair?!?!

I will admit that having Jacob back will see an increase in our attendance, thanks to all of his female fans.

We should try to get Hermida back, too. My girlfriend thinks he's cute.

Ill take Jake back and his crazy late game HRs and doubles. Not to start obviously. I dont see you guys' point in that Lamb can play 3rd...we already have Wes and Barden for that bench defense job. So what we need is a lefty stick that can hit, and Lamb hasn't really hit jack squat yet, so what the hell lol

I don't even wanna entertain the idea of having him back.

Jacobs is a confirmed troll. I sincerely doubt he'll ever be consistently reliable. If we're not satisfied with how our other back ups are, let's look somewhere else.
