Posted May 8, 201014 yr Marlins win the first game of the series, 4-2! W: Volstad (3-2) L: Bruney (1-2) S: Nunez (5) 2B: C Ross (8) 3B: J Baker (1) HR: J Cantu (7)
May 8, 201014 yr Gave it to Chris. Great stuff for a second straight start and could have gone longer than 7. Ended with a PC in the 80s. Hat tip to Pete. Would've liked to see him get the start vs the righty instead of BC tonight but I guess we'll see him do that Sunday.
May 8, 201014 yr Might be too soon, but I think the good Volstad is back. He is just looking downright nasty. Nice to see a few hits for Cogs. Nice to see Peterson get a hit in his first ML at bat. And finally, nice to get a W. Wanna keep those comming, get back above 500 ball.
May 8, 201014 yr glad cantu finally got a hit. he was on an 0 for 16 streak since his hitting streak got broken up. the pitching was good all around, from volstad to the nunez it was a good performance by all of the them.

Yea he is swinging at EVERYTHING. Even today he fouled balls that were nowhere near the strike zone. I feel like he got lucky on that flat fastball he homered. Hopefully he can muster up a new hit/rbi streak now.

May 8, 201014 yr Gotta give the vote to Volstad, I love to see those quality starts and pitchers going deep in the game. I believe its JJ pitching tomorrow so it'd be nice for us to take the series and then take our first sweep of the season on Sunday. Get some momentum really going so we can go into Chicago and funk up those Cubs.
May 8, 201014 yr They just have to stop making so many playing errors and errors of judgement. Those are the ones that really hurt.
May 8, 201014 yr Volstad with another solid Quality Start gets the FOTG nod from me. Glad Cantu got of his 0-19 slump with a solo shot and then he followed it up with a nice Sac Fly. Also great to see Coghlan get two hits today, hopefully it boosts up his confidence level a bit so he can get back to being the hitter he was last season. Congratulations to Rookie Bryan Peterson on getting his 1st Career Hit in his first AB and scoring his first career Run shortly after that. It would be great if he can step up and give us a nice on base guy with speed and defense along with scoring runs on a consistent basis, that's just what the doctor ordered for this lineup. Only question is where would he bat in the order if or when he gets the chance to start? I would like 2 hole with Coghlan leading off but knowing Fredi and how he like the R/L/R/L/R scheme i'm guessing he'll hit 8th.

May 8, 201014 yr I would like to mention, I like what Freddie did with Pinto there. Pinto got one out, but then had a little bit of bad luck on that fielding error, which really could have screwed Pinto up. I don't know how many times I've seen one of our relievers, particularly Pinto, melt down after a walk or a mistake or a bloop. Taking him out there and putting in Hensley was one of the better moves I've seen him make recently (given, I haven't been able to watch the last three games...with the exception of being able to catch the top of the ninth just in time to see a two out HR to tie the game :banghead)
