The guy's WHIP is over 3; that is TERRIBLE. And laughable too, if you have a great sense of humor, I guess...

He's got to be gone after tonight. Hunter Jones where are you?

At least Tankersley struck out Heyward, and got Hinske out, as well. That could be the start of good things for him. He was once very good before the elbow problems. And he's an actual LOOGY, unlike Meyer and Pinto (even in their good days).

I can say that I had never before seen anyone implode like Meyer did tonight. 5 walks and a hit in 1 inning is pretty f***ing unbelievable.

After tonite, you don't have to worry about Dan Meyer no more.

Luca Brazi.

Ugh, Jorge Sosa. I guess he can be a long guy though, that probably had him beat out Jones.

I thought it'd be Hunter Jones too, but he just threw 6 IP yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few days we DFA sosa and call Jones back up

Ah, hadn't noticed that, good point. I remember someone brought up RVH since he was already on the 40 man and could pitch more than one inning if needed (we really could have used a non-slumping-Badenhop tonight) but he happened to have pitched 7 inning today.

That would've been me that brought that up. If what Nny said is going to be the case, with Tank up LOOGYing, I'd rather call RVH. He's been performing in the minors. 4-2, 3.68 with only four runs given up in his last three starts.

No offense but weren't you the one who was crucifying Fredi when he wouldn't put Meyer into close games earlier in the year? It seems this kind of hate always goes one way and when people on this site are wrong they never really give Fredi credit.

BTW, i'm not really picking on you, just using this as an example.

Anyways, why in the hell is Vandenhurk not up here. This guy to me screams solid set up man. He cant go deep into games and we have a huge need for solid middle relievers and he has the stuff to be a nasty reliever but the organization is always intent on him starting. Anyone know the reasoning on this?

This is fair. A lot of us were frustrated with Fredis's "underuse" of Meyer, myself included. He knew something we didn't, it appears.

Well, yeah. Meyer was solid last year.

To be fair, I haven't been criticizing Fredi Gonzalez at all lately, in case you haven't noticed. He's actually managing the pen correctly this year (imo), and has everyone in the correct roles, right now. Unlike last year where he'd use his best middle relievers (Calero, Meyer, etc.) in meaningless situations, often times.

He's only 25, and he's shown some glimpses of having the potential to be a starter, at this level. Starters are always more valuable than middle relievers. Plus, our depth in terms of relief pitchers is pretty good in the minors. In terms of starting pitchers, it pretty much sucks. Our best starting pitching prospects, at the moment, are years away from reaching the show.

Hunter Jones does better against righties in his career.

.234 against RHB

.270 against LHB

Can the FO just get a real lefty for once?

Over the last 2 seasons in the minors it's changed though, he's been getting lefties out better than righties.

Something that's a little unsettling about that is so far this year and in 08 his WHIP is substantially higher VS. Lefties. I'm just really sketched out about Jones as a LOOGY.
