Ramon Castro

Featured Replies

After homering yesterday, Ramon Castro is 7-for-13 with two homers and nine RBI in three games for Santurce of the Puerto Rican Winter League. Castro might finally get his chance to play next season, though he'll either need to be traded or have Ivan Rodriguez sign elsewhere. Also, he'll need to be found innocent of rape charges in Pennsylvania. Castro has been ready for a starting job for at least two years. He just needs a chance to prove it.

c/o rotoworld

Nice.

I didn't know he played for the Cangrejeros de Santurce. Home park is Hiram Bithorn were the Expos played.

I was a bit surprised when I was reading his stats this morning...surprised he was there. I guess they decided that eventhough they were going to put him on trial for rape, it was okay to leave.

It is nice to see that the distractions are not hampering his game though. Maybe that is the perfect sign, he is playing with a clean conscience because he knows he did nothing wrong. We will see.

3 games-2 homeruns 9 rbi's 7 hit's........... :wow sayanora pudge!

Let's not droll yet. This is a WINTER league and not the big leagues

Let's not droll yet. This is a WINTER league and not the big leagues well, he did hit pretty well in the big leagues this season, too.

ideally, the media will make pudge look like a prick, so we aren't forced to sign him. if castro's acquitted we'd be much better off with him than the money man pudge.

if castro can do this consistently....im going to have to go with castro guys im sorry

his talent has been wasted all of these years on the bench its sad if you think about it

how old is he now?

Do the Marlins have any other players in the Winter leagues?

i think they do-altthough i dont know who.

the prob. is that he prob. wont do it consistently.

how do you know?

who are you to make that assumption?

this guy is clearly talented hitting 5 HRs with us in how many ABs again?

he hasn't even been given a half time job yet its not fair

why can't we dump redmond?

Do the Marlins have any other players in the Winter leagues?

link

that link shows the roster and stats, doesn't look like anyone but Castro is there from our team

I did notice Edwards Guzman (Montreal??)

This why I feel is more important to sign Lowell than to sign Pudge. I know that if Castro is given a chance he's going to be real good.

Before the season started, Castro was slated to be our starter. I felt, and many of us here did as well, that he was good for 20+ home runs. His projected stats account for that as well. He should be able to bat anywhere from .250-.290, that is a big range, but as long as he puts up solid power numbers and does his job defensively, that is all you could ask for. I think he may hit around .270-.280.

I would rather start him and let Pudge go, use that money for something else. But Pudge may be back for much cheaper than we think, and if that is the case, you just might have to pull the trigger to help PR and establish greater tradition here in Miami.

the prob. is that he prob. wont do it consistently.

i have no idea why anyone would have reason to believe that.

why do you feel that way?

No surprise to me. He had consistent quality ABs with the Marlins last season, even though he didn't get many chances. I think he's for real, and he has that rare pop that can't be coached. He has to be starting somewhere next year. I hope it's for the Marlins.
