FL v. Wilson: Cleatgate

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm wondering what's everyones thoughts on Brian Wilsons cleats. According to the blog on Miami Heralds website Wilson has been fined. I think it's a little crazy. If I were the giants, I would be wearing the bright orange alt jersey the next two games. I'm posting from my phone so I can't post a link.

Yea, Hanley had some teal cleats last year. Wilson made quite a few good points. The shoes couldn't be any more distracting then the bright orange alt jersey they wear.

Wow this is just downright RUDE....

"Because as Walkoff Walk's Drew Fairservice so astutely points out, "the Marlins have offended us all with the vast sea of (empty) orange seats for years, what makes these shoes so different?"

Answer: These are a lot more fun for fans to look at."

That is such horrid argument I don't know why they even included it other than a failed attempt at being "clever". One are shoes that are physically on the opposing pitcher's feet and can be removed with ease. Another are stadium seats that will cost a substantial amount of money from either increased tickets prices or local subsidies. Furthermore, the Marlins are RENTING Sunlife Stadium. It's not like they can just decide to change the seats on a whim and get it done. Also, the Marlins are leaving Sunlife in a couple years, why in God's name would they even care about changing the stadium's seats if they could (considering that the stadium doesn't even belong to the Marlins)?

I hate it when people try to be funny insulting the Marlins attendance and disregard rational thought.

Lastly, those cleats are atrocious and are not fun to look at.

You're right. Just think of it as a cheap shot and nothing more.

I actually do agree that theyre pretty damn distracting. Theyre freakin highlighter bright! Hanley's never had all teal shoes so he conforms to that 50% rule and even if he did, the teal on his shoes isnt the brightness that Wilson's shoes are. Those things are flourescent! Shiny! If batters complain about pitchers with shiny necklaces and earrings, then Wilson's shoes are definitely more distracted.

Gaaaaaaaa! Why'd you have to call it cleatgate? Is this gonna be happening 1000 years from now? Instead of thinking and being creative, writers are gonna go to the Watergate well? Damn the person who named that hotel.

I'm all for the orange shoes. MLB uniforms need more color.

They didn't look sharpied to me. They were certainly modified in some way (or new shoes altogether) but from the close-ups in the Giants broadcast, they didn't look like someone simply took a sharpie to them, despite Wilson saying that's what he'd done.

For such a supposedly tough guy, I wasn't impressed by him feeling the need to spout off when he was called out for violating an actual rule. He sounded more like a whiny brat than a tough guy.

I'm guessing you're not alone in thinking that Wilson sounded like a child. On Marlinslive! Minervini compared Wilson to his daughter.

Haha I didn't see that. :D
